Foot pain update

Hi every one , following on from my last post 12 days ago regarding my foot pain I saw an advanced physiotherapist today , he told me that it is arthritis and he thinks that the steroids were masking it, I eventually got down to zero the beginning of this month fingers crossed so far ok , anyway as I have had problems in the past with heartburn whilst taking naproxen he thinks injections in the joints will work best for me so is referring me for those and also to a podiatrist to see if they can help .

Keep strong everyone

best best wishes to you all Molly

Well done Molly in getting a proper diagnoses, glad  they are going to give you injections rather than taking Naproxen, they affected me too. Good luck with your onward journey.

Just wondering how you've been doing.  I was really happy this winter to get a pair of winter boots which are actually comfortable.  And I have seen a podiatrist for my feet, which have been a troubel to me since I learned how to stand!  My feet are as good as they've ever been, thin soles and all.  But I still cannot wear stylish shoes.

Hi Anhaga unfortunately I’m still in pain and struggling to walk, I saw the orthopaedic consultant the end of February who said he would refer me to biomechanics team first to see if they could help , I said I already had appointment with them for the following week and I thought I was having injections today, he said he isn’t ruling injections out but let’s see what biomechanics can do . I saw the podiatrist on the 7th March who suggested we try the inserts for shoes first and maybe acupuncture, he told me to get some stiff trainers and bring them so he could check them for suitably ,he made me an appointment for the following Monday but then someone rang on the Monday morning to cancel this and next appointment isn’t till May , I rang them up to say I had bought trainers and was there nothing earlier but I’m still waiting to here .

hope your well best wishes Molly

I found the podiatry department inserts did next to nothing - except leave me with a single pair of trainers to wear!

Just thinking about my feet, and it's curious but I suspect that what has helped my feet more than anything over the past fewe years wasn't directing more treatment towards the feet (I have the orthotics, now only use them in my rainboots, and always wear very good supportive footwear) but after I had a broken leg one winter I did some physio for my knee after the fracture was healed, and have had other physio for my back, which has also helped with some hip pain.  I'm thinking that it's an entire structure which has been out of alignment and by treating problems further up, as well as caring for the feet, everything is somewhat better.

I have a feeling I’m going to be in exactly the same position as you Eileen with a useless pair of trainers ,I ended up returning the trainers I had bought as the receipt would’ve been out of date so will have to buy more closer to appointment. I’m not too keen on having steroid injections either as they don’t always work or last long but I will try acupuncture. I have been passed from one department to another and seen three GPs and still feel I’m getting no where , the ultrasound showed some thickening in the 2nd 3rd and 4th MTP joints the podiatrist was able to explain my pain more than any of the others he says I have degenerative changes to the third tarsometatarsal joint which is why I get the pain in middle of foot when I walk or stand , every step I take is painful and I can’t walk far at all which means limited activity and causes low mood as I am housebound a lot of the time . I find it frustrating as I feel no one seems to understand how painful this is .

thanks for listening to my rant I feel better for that
