Hi,

So I went back to work 3 weeks ago on short hours and around the second week in I noticed my right foot which is the one that had the knee replacement has begun to sell daily and painful....

Any thoughts why and will this Go away as my walking increases.

I am a supervisor in a hospital and do a lot of walking ...

No I don’t. But that is weird. Maybe ask one of the docs?

I am guessing you should take more breaks to elevate your foot during work.

I too am seven months post tkr and I'm experiencing the same thing. My foot will swell and my pain will be debilitating. It will be a couple of hours before I can walk. I went to see my surgeon last week. He took a xray and said it looks great. He had no definite answer for my problem and he had never heard of any other of his patients complain of the same thing. His best guess was that scar tissue is being pinched and causing my pain. He said opening my knee up again would make more scar tissue and may not solve anything. So, I guess I keep waiting and hoping it works itself out.

My guess is simply too much waking ... talk to them about this and reducing it - go to occ health if need be - and above all tell them you need them to make a hopefully temporary ‘reasonable adjustmebt’  to your duties and point out if need be that this is to help  keep you at work and not having to go off sick again! Do staff have rapid direct access to your Physio team - often a benefit for NHS staff but not always known about? I also work in hospital and I’m chair of the staff disabled network.

Oh and do elevation and icing after any walking and maybe at regular intervals anyway. I have a device called a cryocuff I bought on Amazon after reading about it on a blog by a guy whose a TKR patient ( google kneedyman) and it’s been worth every penny.

I have a suspicion lots of people stop the ‘rest ice elevate’ routine way too soon.,,
