Mimi: I have recently taken Pregabalin for Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD). I did extensive research when it was first prescribed and in clinical trials 52% of people with GAD treated with Pregabalin over a 6 wk period stated themselves to be 'much improved' or 'very much improved'. However, I would have been in the 48%. My experience was that I had virtually no side effects but absolutely no positive benefits until I got to the max 600mg/day dose. At this dose the Pregabalin was alieviating the very worst of the anxiety but leaving me in a fug of moderate anxiety with poor concentration and little quality of life etc. I also noticed that the Pregabalin was affecting my short term memory. After 4 weeks I decided, in consultation with my Psychiatrist, that Pregabalin was not working and I am now gradually tapering my dose down to withdrawal.

However my poor experience does not mean that it won't work for you. Good luck and let me know how you get on. J x

Ive just started taking pregabalin for GAD. Ive been on it for about 2 weeks and have got up to 300mg(100 3x per day) for the past week. I noticed an anxiolytic effect after 1 week. It's not perfect at the moment but it is there and I am able to function ok. Clinical trials indicate that things improve more by 4 weeks or longer.

The main problems for me at this point are the side effects. I am experiencing moderate drowisness and occasional dizziness. I've read up on this and for some people this can diminish in time for others it doesnt. I am willing to stick it out for now as I want to give it a chance to work.

Other side effects of note: sexual dysfunction, headaches, blurred vision.

I will come back and post once Ive given it more of a chance.

I have now been on pregabalin for 2 months. For the most part the drowsiness has improved, it still remains a bit but its managable. Anxiety levels have gone right down and I now feel quite calm most of the day. I have noticed a small amount of weight gain (say 2lb in 2 months) so have started swimming to combat this.

Sexual dysfunction is present, maybe not to the extent of SSRI, but its annoying none the less. However to find a drug that works and doesnt cause me major problems is a relief and I can deal with the negatives for now.

Id say Im ok being pregabalin for now, its allowing me to live my life at least semi normally.
