for approx 5 months my wife has been suffering with high back pain. after seeing her doctor he has stated that the pain is in her thoracic spine but because she is only 32 yrs old and new guide lines set by the NHS, she cannot get an xray to see what is causing the problems. the doctor stated that she must see a specialist before even physio can be started. the specialist has refused to see her because of her age, so the doctor refered her to physio anyway within his own surgery.

if the physio should not of been started without first seeing a specialist, could this not be doing more harm? as the physio has stated that although she is willing to treat her even she felt that she should have an xray first so that she could see exactly what she was dealing with, and stated the refusal to give an xray was a cost cutting exercise.

does any one have any idea of how much a private xray would cost on the thoracic spine, as all faith in the NHS is quickly going out of the windowsadsadsadsad

    Hi,

I had a private xray in Nov 2004 it cost £100. From that I got an MRI scan I kicked up a bit of a fuss and this was done on the NHS thank god because they cost about £300. The MRI shows soft tissue as well as bones and was beneficial in highlighting my problems at C6/C7. I am waiting for an appointment for an Op.baring in mind I have had constant pain for the last 2 years, some how you manage, it almost becomes 'normal' Kick up a fuss your wife is entitled. Hope this helps.

I agree I am 38 and female. I have R/A for 6 years now and have been under the care of a Rheumatologist, having had many x-rays, scans and MRI. Before that I suffered back problems and had x-rays, so I am really confused and disgusted about yr wifes treatment. Where do you live if you dont mind me asking. I now have C/S causing weakness in arms and hands and deal with back pain on a daily basis. Please dont take no for an answer, you really have to take control and even demand what you want. How on earth can you have physio when you dont know the real extent of your injuries this could cause more problems.

Please keep us informed and I wish your wife well.

    Andie x
