For BPH, anyone had a Urodynamic study before prostate procedure?

I clinic where I want to have my 'BPH obstructed' taken care of wants to do a Urodynamic study first. I've seen nothing about this bladder test (2 hours) anywhere.

The doctor wants to rule out any bladder issues that may be the true cause of my lack of urine flow. Never mind that an ultrasound put the size at 50cc and I've had to be cathed 4 times due to a total stop.

    Steve,

It is common to do a urodynamics study before a prostate procedure. They want to find out if your bladder is stretched and weakened due to many years of outlet obstruction. If your bladder is weakened you may not benefit from the prostate procedure, at least not right away. However some people have a prostate procedure, and then the bladder slowly improves as it shrinks back down. It may take up to a year or more for that to happen.

I had a Urodynamics test in 2018 when I was thinking about having Rezum done. I backed out of the Rezum when I started self catheterization which I have done until now. They use several catheters during the urodynamics test which may cause irritation of the urethra, If you are not accustomed to catheters, and you may need a week or two to recover from it.

    Tom
