For men - How long does HSV2 take to show in blood?

Posted , 3 users are following.

I am women and My f*ckbuddy infected me in August 22. It took about 7 days for me to show signs (swelling and tingling) and then progressively worse till I got meds (Valtrex and acyclovir cream) on sept 2. Been on meds for 5 days and swelling starting to subside finally. I can pee without screaming and banging my head against the wall.

My doctor called today and swab of blister came back HSV2. Blood work negative because it was my initial outbreak.

I told douche bag the results. I asked him if they swabbed his blister. He said no they did bloodwork and pee.

So if they didn't swab the blister - how will he get a good diagnosis? Will it have been in his blood long enough to pick up? It would be like 3 weeks for him since exposure.

Why wouldn't they have swabbed his blister?

A swab is direct and better, but for whatever reason (no good one!), not every doctor or clinic swabs. If your partner had it already for some time (over 3 months), then it should show up in his blood. IgG test is more accurate, not IgM. If the urine test was for herpes dna, then that should pick it up, too, although such urine tests are less common for herpes.

In any case, you have clear proof that it's from him, as your positive swab and negative IgG show that you have a brand new infection and the only recent person you had sex with was him. Don't let him weasle his way out of that one!

Lol!! No weaseling for this douche. He has already owned up to it and knows it's him who gave it to me. He has no doubt and doesn't deny it.

HOWEVER, I am worried that if his bloodwork comes back negative he will then think he doesn't have it. When in actuality it's just too early for bloodwork. I really can't believe they didn't swab it. That blows my mind.

Haha, good for you! I like your attitude. :D

Yes, if he had a lesion to swab and you told him to test for herpes, you'd think he or his doctor would suggest swabbing it. I suspect he has had it long enough to show up positive, however. Just hope they tested for IgG, not IgM, and/or that the urine test picks it up.

You can also tell him before he gets his results that the IgG blood test has a test window, like other antibody tests, so if he was infected less than 3 months ago, it might not show up yet and he should retest.

What a douche, though! Did he claim not to know, despite having a lesion? Did he offer an apology?

Yeah - he's apologized like crazy and cried on the initial confrontation!!

I don't know if he knew or not. He camps a lot and has dogs and so he thought it was a bug bite or that's what he told me. We'd been having sex for almost year so I just believed him. I didn't think he'd put me in danger.

Wow, he's better than mine! No apology, barely any remorse, still don't really know if he knew or not, but a total (herpes) díck without a doubt. Hate his guts.

My anger is just beginning!!! I am plotting a revenge in my head. Prolly won't ever do it but boy I want to give him pay back.

Yeah - I'm not sure if I'll get the truth from him on his tests -- If he even went and got them. I'm trying not to give him too much info cuz I want to know. If his bloodwork comes back positive then he's had it for a while. But like I said before - I'm afraid it will all come back negative (since they didn't swab) and he'll think, in his mind, he's clear. I just don't want anyone else to get infected by him.

I know!!! If they truly don't know then they are screwing so many people they really don't know.

I really thought I was safe with mine. He had been having sex for a year - condoms at first then we both knew we were clean so the condoms came off. But .... He started being a player and here we are. He couldn't just be satisfied with a good, clean package - he got greedy.
