For the ladies who have intense nausea almost every day during this perimenopause garbage have you ever had your pituitary gland tested? I have had thyroid tests and hormone tests, gastro tests....but i have never tested my pituitary functioning. If you have was there any connection to this horrific sickness?? I am going on months straight now with no appetite, nausea, mouth changes and taste loss. This cant be natural hormone decline cause there would be some let up. There has got to be something major wrong. Another thing is when i took zoloft 10 years ago it never made me sick, but if i try to take it or any antidepressant or birth control i vomit so much i cant even keep water down! Something has to be wrong in the brain

when i first started going through this back in 2010 i had bad nausea and digestive issues i couldn't eat and lost so much weight it went on for a year it does get better i just cant say when. i still do get nausea but its very short lived and not as harsh as when it first started i thought i was dying i looked so sick and felt so ill. But the further in i get in this crap more horrible symptoms have came some have left but some has stayed and never leaves. hang in there i know its hard none of this is easy at all. if you can try the brat diet i basically lived on that as much as i could tolerate, it will get better praying for you

Hi Brandy,
When your hormones were tested, was it estrogen/progesterone/testosterone, or were there others too... adrenal hormones, etc?
I have an appt Tues to talk to a bhrt specialist, I know they test a lot. hoping to find out more then. Will let you know.
Hugs to you, I know it's hell.

Hi sara....i had everything tested! But apparently we need to have our acth tested cause that can show something going on in the pituitary gland....it has all of the same symptoms of perimenopause cause it causes them...im scared to be tested for it tho...treatment could be a hard road if thats the trouble

I had episodes like this a few years ago when perimenopause started. I would usually wake up in the middle of the night or morning with nausea/vomiting that would last for 2-3 days. The vomiting was so bad that I ended up in the hospital a few times. Strangely, the only thing that helped was an Ativan IV. It really settled my stomach. Apparently this is standard treatment for vomiting. When I have any sign of nausea, I follow this regime; 1. put on anti-nausea wrist bands 2. have a few sips of ginger ale (real ginger is better but who has that at 3:00 am?!). 4. take a dissolving Zofran pill. 5. Try to go to sleep. If the nausea gets worse I will pop an Ativan...only as a last resort so I won't become dependent.
When I was younger i.e. between 48-52 I took the pill. It REALLY helped and reduced these miserable episodes.I hope you cycle out soon and feel better.

Its horrible! I do the same thing where i will be sound asleep and wake up so nauseous and vomiting, then low and behold i end up starting my period a few hours later, or sometimes it actually happens on my period....now it happens whenever and my periods are very irregular. ive one has 2 periods this whole year, im only 41. But yours has gotten better? And are you actually into menopause now? Im tired of feeling this way. I feel like i cant take it anymore.

I'm so sorry you are going through this.It is similar or worse than morning sickness which a is also caused by raging hormones. One tip a doctor gave me was to take Benadry for 3 nights before your period is due. She said it affected a part of the nervous system that triggered nausea. She treats her patients with morning sickness the same way. I did try it and think it works plus you get the best sleep ever.
I'm 54 and had the worst episodes between the age of 47-52.I'm still getting my periods but I sense they are dying out. Have you gone for a scope? I haven't yet since my episodes have subsided (fingers crossed!).
Good luck and I hope you feel better.

I have been checked in the past and i do have acid reflux so i think hormones prolly amplify that. And the benedryl is a good idea, that actually makes sense cause my whole pregnancy i was sick and the dr gave me phenergan (its also an antihistamine) & it worked wonders. I think it is a bad part of the change that we have to deal with, my periods are winding down as well as ive only had 2 total this whole year, but when i get one boy am i sick!

migraine ?
migraine can cause vomiting just before a period and can be worse in the run up to the period / early period where relative levels of estrogen drop
migraine is worse with stress and causes stress, the headache may be less intense than the nausea or just nagging .
low dose amitriptyline at night can help
when your in your 40 s and not ovulating reliably you can get 2 periods a month or miss them . if you are vomiting your hrt it is possible to get a mirena ius ( slow release progesterone intrauterine device ) and a patch of estrogen . which will release the dose more smooth ly
