For those who have been diagnosed with Acute Pancreatitis Has this ever happened to you?

I was diagnosed with Acute Pancreatitis last January. Since then I have had intermittent pain ranging from an ache, to none at all ,to fairly severe pain.

Since then an ultra sound scan revealed nothing and my pancreas looked normal to the radiographer. Today, my latest blood results indicate that my Lipase and Amalyse levels are normal. So, I'm asking myself ' why do I still have this pain?'. It seems, according to these results, that my pancreas is back to normal also.

Therefore, if anyone else has gone down this road and had a similar experience having been diagnosed with Acute Pancreatitis, how was your case resolved?

The original diagnosis of Acute Pancreatitis was correct. The various scans taken in the hospital back in January indicated severe inflammation to my pancreas and liver. The pain brought me into the hospital. So, I'm not questioning that. I'm trying to figure out why the pain is continuing.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can shed some light on this for me.

I understand what you're going through. I have had acute pancreatitis 3 times and have been hospitalized twice for it and my lipase numbers goes down a lot the next day in the hospital and then by the time I go to my doctors for a check up they are normal but I still have the pain, or light pain or no pain and it continues like that for me also. I don't know why yet and the doctors don't know why I get it. I don't drink or smoke. Last August was my first hospitalization for it and then again in February. After the August stay I didn't listen and kept eating fat. My doctor said to stop eating fat because my liver is a little fatty and I'm 4'10 and weighed about 110 so I didn't listen. Then I went back with another attack in February and I have listened! I only weigh 98 pounds now and have felt much better but the pain is there sometimes. I went in for a HIDA scan for the doctor to check the sphincter on my pancreas last week and it started the pain again. Not acute pancreatitis but she said it could cause ghost gall bladder attacks. So now I feel the pain morebut but all the time. I'm assuming it just takes a lot of time.

      Hi Nicole,

Thanks a lot for your reply. It looks like you and I have a similar problem insofar as pain is concerned. My GP has decided to refer me back to the hospital where the diagnosis was made. She is very unsure about my symptoms. My pain is located very much to my right side, and not immediately in the area of the pancreas. As my Lipase and Amalyse blood results are normal, she believes that as that is the case, I shouldn't be experiencing any pain. But I do. So, now I may need a colonoscopy to see if the cause of the pain is in my colon. I do need to see a specialist. GP 's are limited in their knowledge. I'm quite concerned now, as I thought acute pancreatitis was my only problem. Yet, it may well be but I'll have to wait until further tests are carried out. Thanks again for your help.
