Fordyce's spots-Vagina

Posted , 2 users are following.

Hallo!

I have recently noticed some spots in my vagina and as I was searching here, I concluded that they seem like Fordyce's spots, since they do not hurt, itch or feel weird. I've never had any sexual experience, even touching, so my gynecologist told me that there is no worry about STD's, and I should visit a dermatologist. The dermatologist told me that, these are probably spots that my body produces and there's no worry. So, I have some questions.

  1. Should I trust her? I am really worried about this
  2. I have had the vaccine for HPV. Could I gain HPV from the vaccine-gardasil? (I know, weird question, just asking)
  3. Can they disappear someday? Is there any treatment? What's the cost?
  4. How will my partner react when he see's it? How will he trust me that there is no risk for STD?

Thanks!

    Dear janasam,

    1. Should I trust her? I am really worried about this.

Yes you should trust her, but post the photo of the spots if you're still worried.

    2. I have had the vaccine for HPV. Could I gain HPV from the vaccine (Gardasil)?

No, you can't be infected by HPV from receiving Gardasil; it's a subunit vaccine where the surface proteins of certain HPV strains are packaged into virus-like particles. There is no live virus in the vaccine.

    3. Can they (Fordyce spots) disappear someday? Is there any treatment? What's the cost?

If these are Fordyce spots, then they are simply sebaceous (oil) glands and are part of your genital anatomy. They are more prominent from adolescence through adulthood and would likely shrink as you enter the menopause. It is not something that should be treated or eradicated as the treatment could cause scarring and pain.

    4. How will my partner react when he sees it? How will he trust me that there is no risk for STD?

If your partner freaks out, then that's his problem not yours.
