forthcoming hip replacement & acute Anxiety

Posted , 12 users are following.

Hello, Firstly I would like to say that I am sorry if I am moaning etc. But I am due to go into hospital for a hip replacement on march 2nd, at the moment my anxiety is sky high. I also have a severe sore throat (stress) I have had ops before but not on this scale. I am having it done in a private hospital on the NHS !! Otherwise I would freak I really feel tempted to get this anxiety sorted as the drug I am on does not seem to be working. I am also a care for my disabled Husband. I could just run away & hide at the moment.I have been told that I am having a spinal injection !!! Will they give me anything to sort the awful anxiety out first? regards amanda

Well I'm now back home safe and sound only 3days post op.

Cant pretend it's not painful, and really hard to get used to using crutches again..

But it does help knowing it's only going to be for 8wks or so,and summers just around the corner.

How are you other recent THRs doing ?

Hi, Thank-you for your message. Which Hospital did you have your hip done? Do you have help at home? I am thinking i will have to get a Hospital bed here in our home, as I will have 13 stairs to climb !! Not a good idea. Hubby sleeps downstairs as well.So I will try and get the GP to get hold of the powers that be and organise this for us. I am really suffering with my nervous system at the moment. Feel tearful. Do you have to have injections? I am hoping that they will give me oral in the way of capsules. As I am freaking out a the thought of these jabs. Regards amanda

Hi..I had my op at Wrightington,Wigan, the nearest joint specialists to me.

Those hospital beds are a brilliant piece of engineering and cost around £2k I think.so doubt the NHS would supply one for home use.

You shouldn't have any trouble with stairs if you keep to the 'good leg first' going up and bad leg first going down motto.I manage 18 stairs with little trouble.

I was given a 5wk supply of Fragmin anti clotting injections by the hospital.

      All the best.

Oh and I agree the jabs aren't very nice, but you do get used to them.

I had a very painful 4th night post op, but not too bad today..

Every day sees a slight improvement..you just have to get through those first 6weeks..

Dont worry you will be fine.
