Foul Mouth Taste

I mentioned this symptom to my GI doctor. They said it was acid reflux. Does anyone smell an odor at their nose on and off or smell an odor after they sneeze?

I have had a burning smell in my nose when I was younger and it was a sinus infection. Another thing that could cause it are tonsil stones. I suggest you go see an ENT.

These are classic signs of a sinus infection - especially a foul odour on sneezing. Amkoffee is right. You need to see an ENT specialist.

I had this myself on and off for 10 years. In my case it finally transpired that I had a slow-burning infection in the root of an upper molar that took all that time to show up on X-rays. The tooth itself was fine. Once the tooth was removed and the decayed bone in my upper jaw scraped away by an oral surgeon, it all stopped and I've never had a problem since.

Chronic sinusitis doesn't have to be dental-related of course. That's just one of the possible causes. You should start with an ENT but if they don't find anything, it might be worth getting checked by an oral surgeon.

Mine definitely wasn't Sjogren's related. The dodgy dental work that had caused the damage was done in 1975, I started getting sinus symptoms in 1982, the op was performed in 1992, and I only got my first Sjogren's symptoms in 1995. It has, however, occurred to me on many occasions that it might have been the 13-20 years of coping with a chronic infection inside my head that sent my immune system into overdrive!

Hi there.  I  get a foul taste from time to time but I also have acid reflux,  and often, many times food doesn’t taste right.    My mom also has the disease and her taste buds are dull.   I’m newly diagnosed so really just trying to figure all out,

    Hi jj:

I’ve been struggling with bad breath, since my beginning symptoms. I opened a forum here just for that and it does have a foul taste that’s worse in the morning. Never had it before. Overnight, woke with it.

I’ve tried every single over-the-counter dry mouth, toothpaste, etc remedy and nothing wirks. Had a breath test done that came back negative; sought ENT doctor who tried everything to get rid of it but nothing has worked thus far. I also went to the dentist and several small tonsil stones removed. Still there.

If you find the source of the problem, please let me know. But I understand the foul odor you’re speaking of. For sure.

    Oly.
