Hi firstly just want to say thanks for the advice people have given me on my first discussion I put on here,it's much appreciated.I'm on here to ask for more advice,I've been referred to gynaecology, but heard nothing as yet, when I found out from the doctor on the 4th may that I have this fibroid,I was told it was just 1cm by 6mm,as you will already know,it's been 4 weeks since I found out, with my hormones being all over the place,as I only came off the depo injection on the 10th March, and I'm yet to come back on my period, does anyone know if my fibroid will continue to grow, still getting pains on and around my stomach,my stomach is still bloated,it's tender to the touch, especially my lower part of my stomach

Where is the fibroid? Inside or outside? How old are you? Are you wanting to have children in the future? All of these play a factor. By the way, I am older nearer to premenopausal state in my late 40s. By the time you get mid-forties, the chances of it continuing to grow or coming back is very small so it's best to have a myomectomy. I wish I had NOT been told to watch and WAIT because my fibroid doubled in size last year. I wish I had taken it out when it was smaller!! If you want a child in the future waiting to remove them is NOT good. However, they can come back. Choices: myomectomy and hysterosopic myomectomy. There are Dr.'s who can do a single incision minigel access port myomectomy (one incision, small, through the navel).  Many try to get you to remove your uterus, buy why if there is no bleeing problems? A good Dr. can remove them without having to take out the uterus- especially as small as yours is. They freaking wait until they are bigger and then your scars, often are larger or they say you are at higher risk for bleeding but don't suggest you do anything until they are bigger and you have symptoms!! It's VERY frustrating!

Good luck to you! I am having the single incision lap mini access July 5. Wish I would have done something last year when it was TWICE this size! I AM keeping my uterus. If they have to emergently remove my uterus I DEMAND they leave my cervix in place for sexual preference (stimulation of nerves for orgasms), and prevention of prolapsed bladder after! And, for GOD's sakes do NOT let them ever take out your OVARIES because it makes you go straight into menopause which is HORRIBLE!!!! Keep the free hormones until they HAVE to come out! Removing them causes increase in fat, redistribution of your fat, emotional issues, and more!

Middle in your uterus on the inside or the outside? Treatment is different depending on type you have, location, size, etc.. 3 kinds: 1.) Intramural (inside the uterine wall), 2. Subserosal (outside the uterus), 3. Submucosal just under lining of uterus), 4. Pedunculated (dangling) could be from the inside or the outside.

If on the inside, I would want to see if hysterscopic removal was possible. Dilate cervix, place scope inside of uterus and remove the fibroid.

If on the outside, I would want single incision minigel point removal through navel or minimally invasive laproscopic removal (2 or 3 maximum incisions 0.5 cm length). ALWAYS check the physician's report card (google report card) and only have it done from someone experienced. Call insurance and see if they can find someone who can do these procedures before you go! If they cannot help you then start doing your research on people in your area via google. Yours is simple right now, so this is the best time to do it. If you ask GYNs, they usually say wait. Tell them you don't want to wait for it to  become larger and then start having issues and everyone will want to do a hysterectomy then! Google search: best OBGYN laproscopic myomectomy, best OBGYN hysterscopic myomectomy, single incision myomectomy mini gelpoint and put your home town in there with the search.

I actually called to the hospital in my area covered under my insurance, asked for the OR, got the charge nurse on the phone and asked which physician's do hysterscopic myomectomy, and single incision using a mini gelpoint (make sure it is MINI) approach. THEN I asked who SHE would want to use or who he would want his wife to go to! You CANNOT BEAT getting this information from an inside person! They know who is safe, who is caring, who uses good technique!

      Good luck!

I would get an MRI. Shop around for good prices. I found one here in Houston where I requested an MRI of pelvis with and without contrast. Before anyone does any surgery or considers procedure, they need to know exact size, location, etc... My ultrasound didn't pick up the right size and underestimated it and then said I had one that was not seen on the MRI. So, MRI is the gold standard diagnostic. I would ask my OBGYN to give me an order for it, call insurance and ask them what they pay and if they have a location they can look up for you that is in network. Otherwise, look up "cheap MRI" on google, call them and ask them if the imaging cost includes the radiologist to read it too! I found one that included both, then called my insurance and they happened to be in network which was GREAT! Good luck!

I agree 100% with 2krmarine. From own experience and all of the posts I have read, they never stop growing. So my opinion...'watch and wait' is crap advice. not sure about ufe? I had surgery when it was gigantic and it was so risky and took a very long time to find a willing capable doc. My only regret was that I didn't do it yrs sooner

This really surprises me. I had large fibroids, which did stop growing. My GYN had said they actually shrunk throughout the years. But I was on the birth control pill. Now, I have no sign. I just had a scan last February and there are no signs of fibroids and I never had them removed. Maybe the pill worked; although not a good choice for many.

every woman's body is different, but the majority of what i've read they just grow.  Mine was 17 cm, and started at 4cm and i tried everything experiemental and otherwise to control it.  According to literature and personal stories i have read, they will slow down or stop growing when you are approaching or in menopause.  Hence, they will shrink at a certain point as they feed on hormones and the hormones they feed on change as you age.

      Debbie,

Every person is different and also depends on the age and hormones of the person. They usually stop when you get to premenopause/menopause state. Some people have success with a complete dietary change. Some swear by using castor oil packs. Everyone is different. For you, maybe the medication aided in that.

I had fibroids when I was 35 (now 57). I was placed on the birth control pill, which helped with the bleeding by the third month. Stayed on the pill for 15 years, and the fibroids shrunk. Had a scan last Feb and there are not signs of fibroids anymore.

I did ask the doctor to put me on the pill, but he won't let me,cos of my size,I had problems on mini pill, the depo, and the doctor told me not to go on the implant,as it would cause me the same problems as the depo did,so I've not been on any birth control at all since coming off the depo on March 14th this year
