    Hi Ann,

    I'm glad you're doing well.

I used a manual recliner after my THR, I was never advised not to.  I practised before I went in, levering down the footrest with my unoperated leg.  For the first couple of weeks I used a thick cushion because my chair was lower than the recommended height, but soon chucked it out and just took extra care getting in and out.

    Good luck with your recovery.

Hi ann, 25 days and RTHR, been using recliner since about 2 weeks with cushions added to seat to raise it up. Sounds like your doing good . Dave

Hi ann, 25 days post op RTHR, I put a firm cushion from another chair in my recliner, pillow at back folded up blanket on top of cushion ! What ever it takes to get to a comfortable height that you can get out of. No one told me not to, but it was 1-2 weeks before I could do this. Much easier now can even sleep in it. Seeing that sleep has become such a rare commodity ! Best wishes, you'll know when you can use recliner with pillows, but it's not 6 weeks, maybe 2 or 3 and it's a comfortable spot. Dave

    dear ann,

I am happy to hear that you are doing so well -- amazing right?

maybe it is because of the recliner being manual and you had both hips replaced?

I was confused in the beginning which leg was considere the good leg -the old new one, right - but note that the old one still needs healing - so maybe that is why ...

    take your time -

    big warm hug

Thanks renee, been told again by nurse no recliner for at least six weeks so shall just have to stick it out, trouble is my leg keeps swelling with not being allowed to lift it onto something for support, and these wretched white compression socks feel so tight!!  Part of the process keep going hugs

I used one, but an electric one.  The manual one needs too much pressure from the legs to operate it safely.  Also I built a base to raise mine by 6 inches - see pictures (and my website).
