Four specialists and no answers as to why I'm having stones...

Posted , 7 users are following.

Hello All,

I've passed about 7 kidney stones over the course of this year. I have seen 4 specialists, three urologists and a nephrologist, all while changing my diet and drinking more water- basically following all of their advice.

I have done two metabolic work ups and many blood tests and diagnostic tests and I keep getting the same answer. Everything looks normal, there is nothing we can do/no other way for us to help you.

I am almost at my last straw with this- why am I still sick and what can I do?? I am frustrated at my doctors and my body. Sorry for the venting, but does anyone have similar stories or advice for me? Anything is appreciated!

Are you on any kind of supplements that are new to you over the past year or so?  Vitamins?  CBD oil?  What kind of stones do you have?  Have they done a 24 hour urine test on you?

The only things I know are: 1) No urologist or other expert has every divined how to "dissolve" a stone, once formed, without a surgical process involved and 2) No one really knows why they form, what foods to avoid, what are the actual causes, lots of advice out there, but no real information. It's sad. Both of these items are the holy grail of urology. The only idea I follow personally is lots of lemon juice, lemons organically sourced. This *supposedly*  stops them from forming. Although all these surgical techniques are a step up from stone age treatments, if there were any, I am sure that in 50 years time we'll look back on the dark ages of early 21st century urology.

As Mrs O says the ingredients need to be here for everyone to see.

What is so secretive about this?

You should be telling us all what food to avoid.

      Come clean with us!

Sally, just a shot in the dark here but I assume with all the specialists you have seen you have had your calcium levels tested?  Sometimes people can make too much calcium and become hypercalcaeamic thus prone to producing crystals that can form into calcium grit/stones.  If you are taking a Vit D supplement, for instance, often being recommended for us here in the UK due to not enough sunshine generally, the extra calcium being absorbed into our bodies through the extra Vit D supplement  may just be too much.

My hubby has a 6mm stone stuck in the ureter at the moment and was in A&E a week or so ago.  He has been advised to take Vit D for the last few years due to another condition but now we are on the point of querying this.

I am not allowed to take Vit D for more than the 3 winter months due to another problem that could be aggravated by too much calcium.

Anyway, just a thought for you and anyone else who might be interested.  Good luck!
