Four wks post op....

I’m 4 wks post op. Had complete hysterectomy; a tumor the size of a volleyball was removed. Had abdominal surgery with a vertical incision that hasn’t completely closed at the very bottom. Dr says it looks good, family checks it daily, and I air it out daily. I find myself to be very tired and swelly belly at the end of the day, sharp pains around incision and warm to touch. At first I thought infection, but read it’s normal due to healing. I consulted with Dr and he confirmed, as long I didn’t have fever. Post op blood work done, everything came normal. I just want to feel normal again. Oh and I have been experiencing headaches daily.... anyone else??

You need to give yourself more time to heal before worrying.

It takes at least 12 wks p!u a more after abdom hyster.

I had tvh and tested for 12 wks.

You will be fine, stop worrying hun.

I’ve just had my 6wk post op check and like you I began to get very restless from 4wks on. I had abdominal hysterectomy and it went well. I was told that it takes 6wks for the insides to knit and heal, longer for vertical incision then a further 6wks for the last stage of healing in which the inside softens up and becomes more elasticated. My wound area feels pretty hard but I’m told it will soften. I had heat round mine too but put it down to more blood going to that area to heal it. You’ve had major surgery and it just takes time to recover. Drink plenty of water and rest and walk when you can. Once the wound totally closes and heals you’ll have more freedom of movement. I began to get very frustrated around 4-5wks and now have much more energy since hitting the 6wk mark. I got a lot of swelly belly when I’d overdone it on a walk or just been on my feet too long so use that as a sign to put your feet up. Best of luck with your recovery and be kind to yourself.
