Fractured Ankle

Hi people.

I broke my ankle on 13 July, & had a plaster put on followed by a boot a couple of weeks later. After 6 weeks was able to bare weight on ankle. Its now 12 weeks & still have discomfort walking especially under the instep & heel. Does anyone out there also have the same thing with pain under the foot. ? How long will it take to get back to normal walking please.

Sadly it will take some time before you feel no pain. I'm 2 yrs out and still have pain on days. You'll experience pain on most areas of the foot.Good luck!

Had my injury on 7/4, surgery on 7/17. Still in pain. It's better than it was, but it's ALWAYS there. Most times, it's not even the ankle, it's everything else. Heel, arch, top, toes, leg, knee. Nerve pain, swelling, random bruising (from twisting wrong or putting too much weight). Oh, and then the PT (which is great, but painful at times)

I feel like the doctors have not been as open as they could be about the amount of pain and how long it will last. Getting through the injury and surgery is relatively quick, but this healing is long and hard.

    Hi Carol

I had an ankle fusion operation. i was 6 weeks in plaster and now in an aircast boot. on removal of the plaster my heel and the instep area was very red and tender, due to the cast rubbing. This has caused me more pain than the ankle.

I have been applying Sudocrem (used for babies bums) to the area and it has improved. I also stuffed a trainer sock and put it inside my boot around the heel area to cushion the tender area. it does help!
