Fractured Fibula 8 months ago no unification yet.

February of 2019 I was skiing and my left leg turned in so much my fibula had a clean break.

I thought it was muscular. I put my skis back on and made it down. I went skiing 2 weeks later and 1 other time during the season. 2 months after I knew it wasn't just muscular and went and had an x-ray. I was told that, "we let nature take it's course with fibulas. If you came in the day after you did it I would tell you the same thing."

I was 'given' an air boot which did nothing in the way of holding it together tight enough to assist in unification. I went back 2 months later and no difference in the x-ray. I was then told to, "pound that sucker into unification." Leaving there not feeling too relieved on what to do, I went and saw another specialist who basically said the same thing. "You can't screw it up any worse. I'd just go around like it's not broken."

He said that putting a plate in it is my only option, but that he would get the ankle specialist to do the surgery. The break is right at he bottom of calf muscle on left leg. Having something be painful is relative. Having something that is noticeable is not necessarily painful, but something I would rather not have to deal with for the rest of my days?

I am 42 and have much more moving around to do.

Any advice?

Does it take longer at times?

I am not adverse to surgery, but if it is not necessary would rather not?

Thank you

Honey, I would get the surgery. it really does not look like it's in the right place to heal on its own. The bottom bone of the break has moved.
