Fractured hand second opinion pls

Posted , 2 users are following.

Hi, my boyfriend had a run in with a curling fan and has fractured his little finger bone...the one that connects to the wrist.

It is fractured in 2 places but they say it isn't displaced. Because it isn't displaced they say it doesn't need Surgery, however some friends who are medically trained disagree. We are in South Africa so would appreciate a second opinion pls

I have the x-ray and can send it to anyone's email address, pls just let me know how to send to you. Thanks!

I'm wondering what the heck kind of surgery would they do to a little pinky finger to heal in place breaks??  The only thing that I have seen was to immobilize the finger by taping the little and ring fingers together or to splint it.  I also have seen a hard plastic sleeve like device to hold the finger straight and immobile.  I don't know what it is called but the  top is rounded and has 4 sides that slip down the finger and are taped tightly in place.  If you don't understand the explanation think plastic banana skin over a banana finger. haha   It is the finger that was broken and not the outer bone of the hand, right?  Your reference of "the one that connects to the wrist is confusing".

Metacarpal is the long bone of the fingers (phalanges) but in the hand connecting to the bones (carpals) that make up the wrist.
