fractured humeros in shoulder 8 weeks ago

i fractured my humeros bone in 3 places in my shoulder socket, that was 8 weeks ago, i am in PT and seems to be doing better according to ortho, the problem is my hand has been swollen for 3 weeks now and my ortho wants me to go to hand specialist, he doesnt know why  xrays showed nothing so now he has ordered an MRI of the hand to take to the hand dr, what could be causing the swelling andis there anything i can do to reduce the swelling, so tired of going to different orto drs for different parts of the body

    The MRI will show more than an XRay, I sure hope you find some answers. I'd be worried about a fracture, those will cause swelling. Keep us posted and best wishes...

    Ugh, sorry to read this post...Are you icing your hand and elevating?  Are you in a cast or immobilizer?  What does your PT say?  I hope it turns around for you!!

    Hi Janice, Last year I broke the ball off my humeros and got a Reverse Total Shoulder Replacement. Post-op there was major swelling of my hand ... for many weeks. Ice and elevation is good. My PT people also massaged it .... forcing the lymph towards the top of the arm. That seemed to help. One of them also thought that there might be lymph-node damage in the arm pit caused by the injury or the surgery. Mostly, I think, it is the inactivity of your hand and arm muscles that allows the lymph to "pool". Be as active as you can with that hand and arm. And take heart ... it will go down in time.
