Fractured ulna 12 weeks ago & still can't bend my fingers is this normal?

On dec 22nd I broke the ulna bone in my forearm -it was cast 6 weeks & when I went for removal of cast my fingers, wrist & hand were so swollen the nurse could not slide the plastic guide into the cast past the lower part of the forearm-it has been almost 12 weeks and I still cannot bend my fingers- wrist sore & not as healed as I expected. I'm scared I have nerve damage or worse- is this to be expected? Has anyone else experienced this? Any info would be greatly appreciated

Give it time to heal. Did the doc do X-rays on area after cast removed to verify bone has knit properly. Also muscles tendons get very stiff in cast takes time for them to heal. Ask for PT.  Take it slow and easy.

Wishing you well well as theirs is a injury that takes many months to heal.

    Hi Faye,

Sorry to hear you are still having problems. Sometimes people need a bit of physiotherapist after having a cast on their arm, leg or foot as the limb would have been immobilised and not used at all. I reccommend that you go back to your GP who can actually have a look at your hand / wrist and you can ask for a physio referral through the GP.

    Best wishes, Joanne
