Freaking out about possible pulmonary embolism

Hi if there is anybody out there with some advice or has had this in the past please I need some advice. I have been having really bad chest pain the last few weeks and some shortness of breath along with stabbing pains when breathing that come and go and a couple other anxiety symptoms. There is a family history of blood clots but I've never had one myself but I have been having leg cramps also I have gone to the ER 3 times now and all of the two times they did a D-dimer test and a ultrasound on my legs both came out negative but I'm really concerned about my lungs but because the D-dimer which half the time doctors don't consider because it can give false positives was negative they refuse to do a CT scan on me. And I really feel like I need that reassurance or maybe it's just my anxiety that's playing tricks on me. So my question is if those two tests were negative if I should just stop worrying about it and see if the pain goes away or just go to another ER for another opinion?

    Hi Christina,

I have had pulmonary embolism after my c section. First off the only way to see if you have embolism in your lungs is by nuclear scan. (One via blood stream and another via airway). Also pulmonary embolism does not come and go. It gets worst and worst. You would be out of breath constantly not being able to make a full sentence without having to take multiple breaths in between. I suffer from heath anxiety, so I can tell you that your symptoms sound like anxiety. But again I am no doctor. But having lived through pulmonary embolism and major anxiety attacks, I can assure you that the brain in one powerful organ that can imitate any symptoms. Oscar winning acting! 😉 hope this helps you

Hi!! Thank you so much for replying! It has helped me relax some. Yes it comes and goes... And now my whole rib cage hurts... Im concerned cuz I feel like the er docs are dismissing me cuz Im in the er like every week and the d dimer test.... Which I heard is accurate and sometimes not, it was negative and my oxygen and pulse and blood pressure was good... He said no need to worry.... I know I need to trust the doc... But I feel like I NEED the ctscan.

Do you get pain before or after eating? Is there anything that makes it better or worse? How often do you get the pain?
