French health chief claims anti-inflammatories could aggravate the infection

Just read that anti inflammatories are not a good idea with Convid-19.

Dr Rupert Beale, group leader in cell biology of infection at The Francis Crick Institute, said ibuprofen could exacerbate acute kidney injury but said there was no widely accepted reason to avoid it for Covid-19.

“Patients taking cortisone or other steroids should not stop them except on advice from their doctor,” he said.

It also depends on the dose you are taking. Patients at higher dose ( more then 10mg) are definitely at high risk, but if your dose is just few mg, then immune system suppression is probably less of a factor. For most of us age is higher risk factor IMO.

    Seen in our press.

'People are recommended to take paracetemol over ibuprofen if they think they might have coronavirus'.

People should not take ibuprofen - a popular anti-inflammatory drug - to self-medicate for their symptoms without consulting a doctor, the World Health Organisation (WHO) said, pointing to ongoing research into possible negative effects.

'An article in medical journal The Lancet put forward the hypothesis that some drugs including ibuprofen might pose a risk for Covid-19 patients who also suffer from high blood pressure or diabetes'.

'Dr Brendan Arnold - speaking before the WHO advice was circulated - said: "Covid-19 is a disease that emerged just four months ago - quite simply there is a vast amount we simply do not yet know. "New information about the disease is emerging at a rapid pace every day, so what is said today may be proved inaccurate tomorrow."

But the bottom line really is that if you DO display any symptoms that could be Covid-19 - sore throat, cough and fever for a start - then don't self-medicate with any NSAIDs. Use paracetamol (if you can get it!) or paracetamol containing cold remedies.

In fact, somewhere I have seen that we should not be self-medicating at all - medical advice should be sought if you are that bad. I suspect it is the use of NSAIDs that may contribute to kidney involvement in Covid-19

That sounds like very good advice EileenH. I think there is too erroneous information out. One person's opinion may or may not be correct. 🙂

I have just read this, not sure if we are classed as high risk.

Being on pred contributes according to the NHS. Then it depends what comorbidities - hypertension and cardiovascular disease is high, so is diabetes and then asthma.
