Well, we all sometimes get a bit dozy during the day as we get older. (I'm 73 by the way.)

But if this has started happening suddenly it might be a good idea to talk to your doctor about it. There are all kinds of things that could be causing it, apart from the normal ageing process. An underactive thyroid springs to mind, for one thing. This is easily treated by popping a pill every morning - I have it too.

Go to your doctor for a general check-up and insist on having a blood test if you haven't had one recently. And one that includes thyroid function - I know UK doctors can be incredibly lax about doing this.

Thanks. I have done that for Wednesday next.  Meantime the NHS Choices site suggests another cause could be Vitamin B12 deficiency.  So I have started one pill a day as a backup

I,m  70 and always have forty winks after mid day, this has been happening for 5 years now, retired and more relaxed. I think the time to query this is if it happens on and off throughout the day despite you sleeping well at night.

Thanks.  Yes it can happen two or three times per day. It might be due as you suggest to lack of mental stimulation but I have booked GP appt for blood test.
