Frequently Get Shingles

Hi, I'm a 46 yr old male. I have had Shingles ever since I was a little kid. I had chickenpox twice as a kid. One time was very mild and the 2nd time was a lot worse. I didn't technically get diagonosed until 2008 by a dr here. I get shingles quite frequently. It usually attacks my right shoulder, collar bone area. Ill get the extreme pain like someone is jabbing a 1,000 needles into my collar bone. But more frequently I get body pain instead of the sharp pain in my shoulder. I get chest pain, back pain, pain in my lower jaw and even numbness in my hands. It almost feels like a heart attack. I get a severe headache on top of my head. Like on the crown of my head. I have no idea what triggers the attack. But it sometimes lasts a week. I can go months and months with no problems and then Itll come out of nowhere. Then Ill get attacks like every week or 2. It is extreme pain and its very frustrating. I do have Acyclovir which helps and also Naproxen which helps too.  Sometimes Ill get the rash and sometimes I don't.  I just want people to know that it occurs more than once or twice in your lifetime. You are not alone if you have frequent attacks or outbreaks.  Look up symptoms on WebMD. It tells you symptoms can be flu like. Body aches, headaches, jaw pain, back and chest pain, numbness in the arms and hands too.

My doctor gave me the shingles vaccination after the rash had cleared up.this was the old one and recently the new vaccine is available .

Ithe zoster virus vaccination is a valuable tool to control future outbreaks.Get the new vaccine for shingles. This will shorted the duration of the outbreak in the future. I am so glad that there is the improved vaccination available.

You sound like you have a serious outbreak and the vaccine will really help give you the much needed relief from this disease. It also slows down the nerve damage cause by shingles. See online for info on the vaccine , its available at many area drug stores and doctors offices now. Or your pharmacist has info on when it's available in your area. The new vaccine is much better than the old one and has been better at helping strengthen the immune system to fight off shingles.

    Good luck
