Oh Madla! How awful for you. 1 centimetre is nothing and as you say you are still swollen from the operation.

Just give it time and you will eventually be able to show your friend how wrong he was.

MADLA my Dr made my op leg one inch longer! I was so off balance when I walked. Is 5 weeks for me and im so much better! Just give it time and maybe ask your friend to wait a while before he visits again . This recovery is so long and hard! We need people to help is - not make us feel bad. I'm so sorry for you. Take care of yourself.

Barb, please see my comment to Patricia. It explains why there is a difference in leg length after surgery. Very normal.

You take no notice he's a waste of time and not much of a friend, ask him when he got his degree in orthopedics, oh he hasn't got one, well surprise surprise, so he knows nothing, what you need at the moment is support and any one who comes through your door and doesn't give it then day bye.

Your leg will be fine, you need to except the fact its a process that cannot be rushed, I'm 5 months and its still 1cm but as it was 4 then hey I can wait.

Redefine your meaning of the word "friend" - this guy isn't your friend. If you looked like Frankensteins monster, a task friend wouldn't be embarrassed to be seen with you. He is no friend and doesn't deserve you as a friend. Ignore him. There is nothing wrong with you, and a lot wrong with him.

O Marla it's some friend you have there that sort of friendship you can do without.

    I'm 16weeks post left hip replacement,like Barb

my op leg was 1inch longer after op,but now

there is very little difference after 4months.

Before op I was bent over and walked like ape

woman this was how my body copied with the

pain I was in now I walk upright no limp ,no

pain it's wonderful it takes time I'm still sore

and tender round scar area but sure this will

get better with time ,your so early in your

recovery be proud of what you've been though

everyevey day you will get a little better truly

you will I wish you good healing and send you

great big hugs, there's lots of Hippie support

    here for you 🙋 👍 🌸

Hi Madla, do not listen to your friend. He does not know what you are going through. It's hard to have regrets. At times I regret as well but it only add more sadness in this life. So cry hard and then start motivating yourself again that everything will be fine. You are strong and will get well. Life will not be the same but you'll rebuild a great life...sending lots of love to you.

Sounds to me like that it's your friend who is a little bit short.  You don' tneed him.  He's just making fun of you so he won't have to face his own shortcomings.

?When I was getting ready for my surgery my doctor told me that my leg was about 1/2 inch shorter than the other but that he would fix that during the surgery.  When I went for my two week post-op checkup I mentioned to him that I still havethe short leg.  He said not worry because the swelling and movement of the muscles and tendons, etc. needed time to reorganize themselves, especially the swelling.  Yesterday was my 6 week checkup.  MY leg length is PERFECT.  The doctor made me walk down the hall.  He did some measurements.  He said that everything is exactly as it should be.

And I do agree.  I'm walking perfectly.   Just give it time.  And give your friend the boot out the door.  It's unfortunate that there has to be people in the world like him.

After THR surgery it's always that feeling one leg is longer. There again it because most docs don't take the time to tell their parients that it's a normal feeling and here's why.

Will my leg be longer? Yes, very slightly. Your hip is strongest and most stable if the hip is restored to its original position. As your cartilage wears out from OA, the hip loses height. The height is restored . By restoring the  natural leg length during hip replacement helps prevent hip dislocations, a major complication. Pre-operative digital templates create a road-map for leg length for THR surgery and DURING SURGERY they measure your leg length several ways in surgery to assure appropriate leg length before the surgeon closes the incision. The diferences we are talking about are less than a centimeter, approximately 1/4 inch.

After surgery, the spine and pelvis have time to adjust to a new leg length. It is common for us hippies to feel excessively long at first. It's an odd feeling. They verify leg length with x-ray and can reassure us that it is not “inches too long, even though it feels that way.  I encourage you to walk and use your leg and over time, as most of us hippies adjust and by about 12 weeks after surgery the leg length feels appropriate even after after a few months.

      Peace &!Heeling.

Don't listen to this guy. You know it will all be worth it in the end. My leg felt short at the beginning but it feels fine now 😊

Don't listen to your !friend", only someone who has gone through THR knows what the recovery is like, and you are doing fine by the sound of what you say.

Yes, a few of us do get complications, but you should now have lost the awful pain that you had before the operation, any pain you have now is "recovery pains" which is the body mending and getting better - and the pains will disappear given time.

Stay on this forum, the people here are your real friends

Someone like that isn't your friend Madia. Ignore him and his ignorance. You're doing fine and your leg length will be the same as the other one when everything is healed up.

I leanred form the administrator of a skilled nursing facility that the paitnet should not always be trying hard to get the approval of others--whether it be a "friend" ("friends) can be EXTREMELY unloyal/disloyal!! we all need to be on guradrd about this. . Whther it's a friend or a nurse or a doctor or adminsitratovel or whatever....

what you said was correct.  Remember that this THR surgery takes a few months and Physio for heeling. It took 8-9 months before I started to feel normal again. You will get better, feel better and walk without a limp.

Friends like that are uninformed about THR, and negative. If that were a friend of mine I would block from my life until at least I had have heeled. Hitting you when your down what a $&%#. Did I say that. My BAd .LOL

Find a ONLINE hospital WEB site that explains the different stages of heeling and let you friends read it just to give him the proper information.

PEACE & HEALING on your wellness journey!

And biggrin smiles sent your way!
