Front thigh muscle 'solid' causing limp...

My new and lovely physio has said the main thing causing my limp is a solid and swollen front thigh muscle, is this normal? And why is the muscle so locked up? Is it simply the strain of the surgery or does anyone know why it would behave in such an unhelpful fashion? It feels quite weak too, and very hard to touch. I am having it massaged today woo hoo, very excited about that! But can anyone else suggest ways to help this? When I bend my knee it pulls at the front and the back tendons feel rock solid too. If I could 'relaease' this muscle I think I could walk really well, but how do you do it??

Sue would you consider going for a deep tissue release massage with a physio? The soft tissue turns hard as rock, it needs to be loosened with stretches, massages, and gentle persistent exercise. Hot baths if you can get into one.... Will all help. It wasn't a comfortable massage by any stretch those tendons are really right, but it helped even after one session.

Have any one of you heard of dry-needling????   While living in L.A. for 34 years, I never did ... however, here in Holland it is one of the options some of the PT's offer -  I had some dry-needle treatments pre-op and it helped relieve the tightness, knottiness of some muscles -

A thin, acupuncture - like, needle is stuck in that knot of muscle to release -  it is a weird feeling - not really painful but more like a dull sensation ....

You are right, Rose, those deep tissue massages are not for wimps !

another gray, rainy, windy day out here _ I wish I didn;t have to go out to do grocery shopping ...

Oh well, at least I can drive !!!!!

      big warm hug

My physio gave me one and said she will give me another as it helps.

thanks for the advice, might need to see my chiropractor if all else fails.

I was trying not to scream out loud during my 'massage' I was biting my lip and thought childbirth might be preferrable.

Happy you are grocery shopping with the car, and not without, the weather is ghastly. We have another storm arriving tonight, storm Henry, which sounds friendly but they are predicting 90 mph winds! At the moment it is pouring with rain and already windy, it was the same yesterday, how are we supposed to go out walking in this?!!

It is tight, soft tissue like a brick wall apparently. Try massaging it yourself pushing up towards your heart. Some of it is fluid and some locked muscles. It will gradually ease with stretching and massage, and walking...I hope it gets better soon Sue x
