Frozen or encapsulated hip for a year now

Posted , 4 users are following.

I'll take an extremely hard fall on to the tile in my dining room. Since then I have developed Frozen or encapsulated hips worse on the side that I fell on. I can barely walk to the bathroom and it has been almost a year. The pain is so severe that I have panic attacks. I also have arachnoiditis and bulging discs in my back which led to this terrible fall. If anyone knows a doctor or just something that they have done that has helped them I would really appreciate it. I had physical therapy for a month twice a week. Until my insurance wouldn't pay any more. It seemed too mildly help but not a lot. Thank you in advance Tonya

    Hi tonya,

Sounds  like a nasty fall, sorry that it seems to still creating painful problems. Do you treat with heat or asked about high intensity ultra sound treatment. I hope it will ease and heel soon. Sometimes it doesn't hurt to obtain another opinions and learn exactly what the injury is and ask about referrals and other treatments. Especially if iyou don't feel it's not making progress.

What treatment have you had for your back? Stretching and specific exercises can help as well as heat wraps. Also injections from a specialist has helped my disc issues . Totally avoided surgery. Also massage is important to get the blood flow to the injuries and heel.

Exercise can help train flexibility in the hip and shoulder. Depending on the injury. You don't say if you have a tear in tendons pulled muscle or rotator cuff issues.

By stretching and foam rolling the muscles and ligaments that surround the hips, you can work toward restoring some capsular laxity, which in turn, allows for proper range of motion and hopefully less friction on nerves and blood vessels, which often equates to an easing or complete abatement of pain.

Hips can freeze just like shoulders can. For both of these ball and socket joints to work properly, you need to maintain the right amount of flexibility in the capsules that stabilize them. That's where the ligaments and muscles are working together to hold the hip in place the capsule. So injured or not, it's highly worthwhile to stretch these areas regularly.

I exercises since too, I had 3 THR. I must in order to maintain strength less pain and flexability. Water phisio helps so much. Otherwise it's easy to become stiff and have painful hips and shoulders.

Hope ur better soon. Many heeling blessings sent ur way! confused

Tonya, I'm getting ozone injections in my hip right now. Just started recently, no miracles yet but I'm very hopeful!

The Dr said this week: it feels like a soft leather shoe , 2 weeks ago he said it felt like a hard leather shoe..

    Progress I hope!

Tonya, Firstly there is no such thing as a frozen hip, the shoulder is the only joint that freezes and defrosts. In spite of this some doctors and therapists say this happens. What was the diagnosis and treatment you recieved from the therapist? Like all joints with a capsule the hip will show a pattern of stiffness so you have a capsular pattern or something else, such as joint wear and tear, bursitis, tendonitis or perhaps muscle mbalance. Your PT should with years of schooling  should be able to diagnose and treat you with  some success
