Frozen Shoulder after Rotator Cuff Surgery

Hi - I'm 3 months post Rotator Cuff Surgery.  Felt like I was doing well in terms of overall ability to function, but certain stretching has not improved for the last several weeks.  I felt like I was developing a psychological block as PT is excrutiating with the external rotations.  Sleep is not good, though not as horrible in the beginning.  But I haven't really slept since surgery.  Yesterday I went for my 3 month checkup and my surgeon said I have frozen shoulder.  I got 2 cortisone injections into the joint (not fun).  She said it wasn't anything I've done or didn't do, my muscles just don't relax.  I'm pretty unhappy.  Feeling like a wuss with no pain tolerance.  Wondering why did I get this surgery at all - life is a mess after.  She said we'd see how this did and if it doesn't help with opening up the joints she'd do surgery to clean it up more (paraphrasing poorly here).   Any advice, pep talk, similar stories????

I’ve had 3 surgeries for Rotator Cuff year. First surgeon gave me steroid injections which don’t really work after I developed Capsulitis so he decided to do a manipulation under anesthesia and ended up loosening the hardwear that he put in and caused an irrapearable massive cuff tear so I was sent to a specialist and had a trapezius tendon transfer. I’ve developed capsulitis again after 5 mos so my current surgeon is going to remove it with arthroscopic surgery. My surgeon said you should never manipulate a shoulder that’s had arthroscopic surgery. So if you have to go into surgery find out how they will perform the procedure 🙂

I had rotator cuff/labrum surgery and reattach head of bicep surgery about 3 yrs ago. 6 weeks after the Dr put me under and performed a manipulation for frozen shoulder. 8 months of PT and different procedures he released me saying my shoulder MRI showed a structurally sound joint. I lived with that for 2 years, finally went to a different Dr. He did an Arthrogram and informed me my rotator, labrum were gone and I had a displaced ball and socket with severe arthritis. As I sit here writing this I'm 4 weeks into my reverse replacement procedure....make sure your Dr. Knows a manipulation can mess you up.

You poor thing. To tell you the truth I don't much trust doctors and have stuck with my acupuncturist, Dan, once a week and a massage once a week. They are both really helping. Dan has slowly cleared all the diffused pain that was running down my arms and now I have only concentrated points of pain in both shoulders. He is now working on those and I am sleeping much better. I still have pillows for my arms but don't wake up as much with searing pain...thank God. I am a good girl and do all the exercises twice a day and added sit ups because for some reason the stretching for my feet and holding it for 10 seconds each sit up stretches between my shoulder blades, and after a few sit ups I can lay my shoulders flat on the ground which is painfully imposable before I start doing them. Good luck sweetheart.

Hi Sarah. I searched the Internet for “how not to go crazy after rotator cuff surgery” and found your thread.  I’m an animal rescuer too! I run a small primarily cat rescue. This is killing me relying on others and feeling like crap nauseous a lot and pain.  My surgery was just 4/6. Was supposed to be just grinding down a bone or two but turned out the mri didn’t show all the damage  and my hour surgery turned into a four hour ordeal.  I feel like a lose my mind I don’t know how I’m going to get through so much more of this I’m already losing it.

I had a rotor cuff tear repaired and

I did about 30 seconds of physio 3 days back still suffering from that

I tore my cuff 5 years ago all the doctors said nothing wrong but finally found a surgeon to do orthroscopy surgery and he found torn cuff and cracked ligaments and calcium build up my left shoulder was sitting back about 5 or 6 inches shoulder blade protruding but as it was  a insurance claim they assume I was holding my arm in this position to try make out it’s bad but after surgery everything straightened up but my arm tendons feel like they shrunk just hope that after going with torn cuff for 5 years has not caused permanent damage

    Hi Sarah,

I hope that you’re feeling some relief in your shoulder..  I had rotator cuff repair in April and am now finding the pain excruciating.  I too wonder if I should have not had the surgery.  If you found relief, could you share your story?? Please
