Frozen shoulder and who we are??

Posted , 19 users are following.

Hi all just thought I would try and get us all together; to see who we are how we got here, how many there are of us; our ages , jobs lifestyle etc to try and find any plausible link to what we are going through..

I am Cindy, (as some of you already know), I have just turned 48, i live in Norfolk, UK.

I think I am starting to go through the change in life with the dreaded hot flushes😳.and lack of menstral cycle. I have had frozen shoulder since Oct 15, although I believe my first diagnosis was rotar cuff injury ? I had not had any injury to my shoulder, just a bucket load of stress prior to the onset ??

I would consider myself healthy, with a good diet, I drink occasionally and do not smoke. I am a senior support worker, I do use a computer daily...., and I probably did not exercise as much as I should have.

There is history of FS in my family and arthritis?

This forum has kept me sane (thank you all).. I believe I am now FROZEN, movement is restricted and the pain;although still there is more bearable. I still need the comfort of my heat mat and I have found a TENS machine works well , I have also started Trigger Point Therapy which is helping: I am also sleeping a little better although 8 hours sleep is a very distant memory !! Any way I'm rambling now my idea for this discussion was bullet points to try and find a connection ; so I've blown that already😊 anyway if you want to respond; thank you x

Hi to all, and thank you Colette , jenn and Claire for your recent replies, we have all joined together to keep each other sane; and even if we never meet the mere fact that we can all rant to each other when the need arises makes us pretty firm forum friends!!

I read with interest Collette at the strange arm above the head routine; it isn't something that I felt relevant up until reading your post; but I too had that experience... Did any one else ?? I always laid on my left side then a few nights I woke on my back with both of my arms touching the headboard 😳?? I have FS in my right side but my left side is having an occasional nervous ache... I'm also interested in hearing about the virus , this isn't something I had heard of before ; and worth investigating further ..

Like jenn I had a lot of stress prior to onset and I am definately having hot flushes and night sweats; so there is a definate link (in my opinion). There is also arthritis in my family and diabetes , but I am not affected as far as i am aware..

I work at a desk , write in support plans and use a computer and have pushed many wheelchairs .

I am concerned about getting the condition in my left shoulder also , but Clair I believe it only affects a shoulder the once it should not return ; which I suppose is strange in its self ... Seeing as we face stress daily , and the menopause can last for years...

As confused as ever, but it's good to communicate ; I'm glad you are all finding the discussion interesting .

    Take care Cindy xx

Hi I'm Barbara, 43 year old British Expat in Houston Texas.  I've had this since August 2014.  Have had three steroid injections which gave temporary relief, 20 pt visits which again helped a little and am currently taking 15mg maloxicam daily.  Can get my arm up to. 45° angle now and reach in the back of the car - can even get a ponytail in if its first thing in the morning.  Don't fancy an operation so I'm stubbornly waiting it out.  The excruciating pain days are behind me I hope.

      Welcome Babara ,

Glad to hear that you are nearing the end of this awful condition; I'm with you with the 'stubbornly waiting it out' the thought of going under the knife just terrifies me, so I'm coping with pain relief , tens machine; hot water bottle and occasional massge.

How did you FS come about ; if you don't mind me asking ?

It started about a month after I got back from vacation and to be honest at the time I couldn't pinpoint a cause.  Later of course I was searching my brain for a reason, I hadn't fallen or had an accident *but* I did go clay pigeon shooting.  It was the first time I had fired a gun (or held one in fact) and the back was pressed hard against....you guessed it my right (and now frozen) shoulder.  It didn't hurt at the time so I didn't correlate the two but now I have my suspicions.  My dr gave me an x-Ray and a few months later an MRI just to check it wasn't anything else but there is nothing to see - no bone spurs, no tumors so frozen shoulder it is.  The pain was so acute to begin with, I could never have rolled over on my right side or reached for my bag in the back of the car, so I know it's better than it was and I can get it up to reach cups in cupboards.  I still have limited range of motion anything beyond that height, but I hope it will keep improving.  I *may* also be slightly pre-menopausal (not diagnosed) but my periods have been a wee bit erratic this past couple of years so can't rule out hormones/estrogen etc.
