Frozen Shoulder/Clavicle Fracture

Posted , 2 users are following.

My partner suffers from a frozen shoulder prior to fracturing her clavicle, the bone is knitting together but she is having issues with the arm on the side of where the fracture was, she has limited movement, and the hospital have said that they will do under a general anesthetic a procedure when they will move the arm and try to get the movement back as it was before, and I was curious if there was anyone that has ever had this performed and if they have was it a success?

Unfortunately I don't know the medical term for the procedure.

It sounds like Manipulation under Anesthesia (MUA).

I just had this done and an Arthroscopic left shoulder procedure yesterday.

The MUA is basically where they force your limb to move in the ways it is currently limited which is then immediately followed by physical therapy.

They gave me a nerve block on the arm along with the typical surgical procedure steps.

Yesterday I had no control over my arm at all due to the nerve block....it was like a dead limb hanging.

I am in a sling to ensure no damage but only will wear as needed now...mostly in public to avoid someone hitting it.

I start therapy today in a few hours.

I already did some home exercises to start the process.

The biggest thing stressed to me was to stay on top of my therapy and exercises and to stay on top of pain meds even when not necessarily thinking is needed because once pain is bad it is almost impossible to control.

I can't say much on what progress is provided since just starting but in my case this was the best option for me.

    Good luck!

      Fred,

So kind of you to remember me and ask how I am doing.

      I am doing really well!

It has been 5 weeks now and I can lift me arm shoulder height in front and a little higher from the side.

I can now move my arm to my back, not much but some...prior I could not move to my back at all.

The pain is minimal now. I have a gnawing pain at night but nothing severe.

I have progressed to minimal or no pain during therapy (except when they manually stretch to see the max stretch to report back to my doctor) but even that is quick and releases after they release the extreme strech.

The key is to keep at it at home.

I am now working on building strength.  I am pretty weak but building the strength back up. It all just takes time.

      How is your partner doing?

      Well, I hope!
