Frozen Shoulder...Round 3!! No injury...Not diabetic

Posted , 8 users are following.

I have seen several people who have posted that they have had this in both shoulders. I have had it in both and now on the second time for my right shoulder. This time is much more painful than the first two. I have done my best to wait it out and I just cant take it any long and am considering surgery this time. The three cortisone shots have done nothing for me.

My doctors have said this is an unusual case. They have never mentioned hormone levels. They have been checked twice this year and come back fine. Do I need to ask for a specific test or should I try hormones first to see if they work before I try surgery?

I am a person that just tends to do what the doctor recommends but I don't want surgery if I have another possible option.

Thank you smile

If you look at the age group most women are pre or menopausal, could be a link butbthen they slso say a link with diabetes.

My surgeon also said their is sn 80% chance it will happen to the other shoulder eek i hope not. i was also told heavy lifting and repetitiveness can cause it. I have read that people have had it reoccur in the same shoulder but my question did theybhave surgery to remove the scar tissue. If not iscit possible the scar tissue could become reinflammed.

i had it my left shoulder i had cortisone injections i hsd physio i had hydrodilation and nothing worked. Wednesday last week i had a subacromial decompressionnand capsular release and its great now reallybpleased i had it done and its much better feeling much more positive although stiff still but inhavecexercises to do 😊

I had cortisone injections, physio (just a few sessions, then stopped because it made it hurt worse), and hydrodilation (MOST PAINFUL PROCEDURE EVER, screamed bloody murder, would NEVER do that again), but I did not have surgery... and suspect it's starting to recur in one shoulder.

i have to agree with you on hydro dilation me to cried all the way home and carried on crying when i.got home awful physio made mine worse and cortisone but glad i had surgery now ifvit happens to the other shoulder i will opt straight for the surgery

The surgeon wants to take out all the scar tissue. He said that is what the problem is.  If I dont get it taken out I will not get range of motion back but pain may go away.. Looks like I may not have a choice.

i had surgery last wednesday 5 days ago brilliant absolutly so happy i havent got complete range but will with physio starts next week but i have good range now but still stiff from surgery still have stitches in but i woukd recommend it. People sometimes seem a little adverse to surgery but i didnt care this time pain and restrictive movement outweighed the con of surgery they are minimal risks as long as you follow your instructions of your surgeon what can go wrong

I am nervous becasue he wants me in PT the day after surgery for the next 10 days!!  We have not talked the full details of surgery yet because I have not told him yes. I will after I see the PT tomorrow. I am pretty sure though after leaving his office last week that it's my best option. Also after reading so many positive outcomes after surgery it has put my mind at ease. I cant even remember what it is like to move my arm normal anymore lol eat, brush my teeth, my hair, make up, hold my new grand babies, so many things I want to do. How long does it take to recover fully? I am sure it's different for everyone.

im having a nightmare with physio shes gone on maternity leave. ive had exercises to do at home which ive done now im getting myself worked up over not getting the full movement back. So i need to see the surgeon as a matter of urgency

So you were supposed to go to PT the next day also? They have also offered me to stay in hospital over night due to my epilepsy and it being my first surgery ever.  Do you think I should?  Is it that bad? I know I will not have any problems I never do with seizures I am just wondering if I should take advantage of the offer.   You are my inspiration to have surgery so I hope PT goes well with you and I am anxious to hear how it goes.  I hope you can get in touch with your surgeon and get in with someone else who can get you started.

Just the fact that you can be on here typing is a good sign to me. I have a hard time doing that now.  If I can do that right after surgery that would be fantastic! I am an Admin Assistant so I type for a living only part time and I can do it from home but it would be nice to stay caught up on my work!!  I have missed so many days I am surprised I still have a job. A frozen shoulder and pain is extremely hard to explain to an employer thats for sure!

if i suffered from epilepsy id take them up on an overnight stay its one night to make sure your safe and settled and you are alright 😊my surgery was brill i was first in the list at 9am i was home by 3pm i was stiff and sore i saw physio before i left she gave me exercises to do every 2-3 hrs which i do, and have pain killers to take to help with thecpain so i can get the movement. Then my surgeon said physio to start 8 - 10 days after surgery unfortunatly shes gone on maternity leave leaving me with no physio and i need to speak to surgeon or orthopaedic nurse as i dont want to end up having an MUA due to having no physio but i shall see what they say on Thursday when i get my stitches out x

Did you call your surgeon or are you waiting for your apt. Thurs?   I hope they have set up PT for you. Seems like they should have someone take care of her patients while she is on maternity leave.

So sorry to hear you are going through this again - it must be a nightmare.  Many of us suspect there is some link with frozen shoulder and hormones - but most of the medical profession dispute this.  My consultant completely dismissed the idea.  I doubt any doctor would prescribe you hormones for a frozen shoulder but may if you are having other menopausal symptoms.

I was also against having surgery but understand how desperate you can get.  Unlike Karen25221 and d59025, hydrodilatation worked well for me and wasn't at all painful - a bit of mild discomfort for a few moments was all I felt.  Not sure if it depends on the docor who does it or just the specific frozen shoulder, as we're all differerent.   Within 2 days I was pain free and I still am, over 4 months on, with my movements improving all the time.  I'd have no hesitation of having it done on my other shoulder, if it happens again.  We are all different though and what works for one, doesn't always work for someone else.  Good luck, whatever you decide to do.

I have been in menapause for almost 3 years now. I feel lucky my symptoms are not to bad.  Hot flashes once in awhile at this point I cant tell if its the cortisone shots causeing them. smile

I had MUA and arthroscopic release on my left shoulder in August 2015 symptoms began in Jan. Of that year.

My doc also ordered pt the day after. I still had the nerve block in my neck so mostly they just assessed my rom.

Then back again 2 days later then twice a week but doing exercises 3x daily at home. I am scheduled for surgery this Thursday on my right arm.

Same drill with pt , next day is first appt. I agree with Karen I would probably take advantage of the overnite stay, unless you are just more comfortable at home,or like me have a dog who would not be a happy guy - lol.

I have read some hospitals have passive range of motion machines that help movement in that first 24 hours.

I could not remember what is was that that the doc called it but it is an MUA and artroscopic release.  I have watched videos online. I know I have to talk to the doctor about this my I am scared because I am very petite. My arms are very tiny. I have no muscle left in my right arm. just skin and bone. It just seems so easy to make a mistake or break my bones.  Can you tell I am getting scared the closer it gets to going in and scheduling the surgery. lol Sorry It was also a very painful night sad

I feel like a giant baby I am so afraid of more pain.

US- Arizona 75 out now wil be 85 later today. smile  I am just scared and pretty tired today with no sleep.  I dont want to take a pain pilll before I go to PT he is going to ask me how well I can move without pain and I need to be able to tell him so Im sitting here with ice pack.  When I look at our outcome it looks great and gives me confidence I can do it. I think a hospital stay will be good for me as well.
