FROZEN SHOULDER SHOULD I BE OFF WORK

Posted , 86 users are following.

I have had frozen shoulder for about 4 months now, diagnosed by GP and phsiotherapist. Shoulder and arm painful and aching all time even with painkillers. movement very limited. I knocked shoulder today when walking through a doorway and the agony lasted 2 minutes. Also happened when my dog was in my way and I had to move suddenly. I never experienced pain like that before. can't sleep etc and can't tie my hair up for work (wake my kids up to do it for me) washing hair one handed just about coping. Finding work and driving very difficult. keep thinking about going off sick, but surely can't stay of sick for months on end. Can't decided what to do about work. I am a home help and need to be able to shower, folk and help them dress etc. (could do with the help myself)..... fed up! sad

ps physio and steroid injection no help

    Dawn,

I know it's hard to believe but the more still you keep the arm the more it will hurt! I wonder if I should have done the MAU. A lot of people swear by it. I am on my 2nd frozen shoulder and I'm opting out but only because I believe I have bursitis, tendonits etc so I just don't think in my case it's wise.

    Are you doing the bands?

    Hi Sheila

I'm not using bands but I'll go out and get some tomorrow. Both the doctor, chiropractor and the consultant told me to keep he arm moving so I have been, as much as I can. But I'm graduall losing he use of it as it gets more and more painful. Its almost too painful to drive now, i usually have tears in my eyes, if not rolling down my face as I change gear! The handbrake is a right hand job, no way h left can do it.

    Hi Dawn,

Driving hurts so much, doesn't it. Some days are better than others but I struggle changing gears too - an automatic would be much better. I only drive short distances these says and not often. I'm seeing my surgeon in two weeks to discuss arthroscopic capsular release which I hope to have done soon as I'm not getting any better. I'm frozen up pretty badly with barely any movement left in my affected arm. I can't shave under my arms, nor can I eat my dinner with a knife and fork - I have to stand at the table to cut up my food like a child then I can sit down to eat using my fork.

    Good luck with your op!

Hi guys, I feel so awful for all of you starting into this condition and trying to get through the first period. It feels like it will never pass and all the professionals are clasping straws to help.

I went through 2 of these first on my left shoulder than 1 year after all was healed, on my right.

It's the most incredibly painful thing I've ever had to deal with, much worse than the 3 childbirths that before this I considered the most painful thing.

I've gotten through both the first was disaster, with a load of professionals doing all kinds of things that just seem to make everything worse. This hell lasted for 3 years. For the second one, I decided not to get 'help' because reading this forum and talking to people made me realize that science is not evolving and the 'cure' hasn't really been found.

I'm one year into this almost and most of the pain has gone. I've been using my arm quite normally for about 6 months but not all the freeze is over. Without help, without force or heavy therapies I can say that using it is very important in the healing process forcing it possibly the most damaging thing you can do or allow others to do to you.

Try keeping it in action, carrying things if you can, cleaning tables, sweeping, playing 'careful' tennis and mostly if possible swimming but don't allow it to hurt, the moment it hurts carry-on but softer in a different position, for me it worked wonders.

Good luck to you all. the pain and freeze will pass!

Hi, I am the one who started this thread in 2010. Just an update. Had the keyhole surgery after being off work for about 6 weeks, then intense physio for a few weeks and shoulder was back to normalish within 6 weeks of the op. Any questions please ask . I know the pain is excruciating but surgery worked very well for me xxxx

I'm from Australia. I was diagnosed with frozen shoulder (right arm) in March this year. At the same time I had tennis elbow for the second time in the same arm. I found the paid when I bumped my shoulder excruciating and the lack of movement was something I had never experienced before. I had a corsitone injection in my shoulder as well as one in my elbow. It seemed to help. Unfortunately I couldn't get to a physio as I started a permanent job at the end of April. I am a Legal Assistant. The shoulder seemed to be alright as far as the pain went for a few months but the rotation was never much better. Just in the last month or so the pain in my shoulder has increased significantly and I can hardly raise my arm to put on deodorant. One of my friends is suggesting surgery. At the moment I also have tennis elbow in my left elbow (third time). When I try to lift anything with either arm I am in agony. I am 50.

Sorry to hear about the pain. I remember the agony of any sudden movement and sleepless nights. I got to the point where physio was far too painful and movement was totally impossible. The surgery was fairly pain free, but once the arm is freed by surgery the physio is an absolute must and within about 6 weeks was almost back to normal. I recommend it. But do check other peoples experiences. Good luck xx

I had MUA procedure yesterday. Woke up in severe pain but after a lot of pain relief and some sleep my shoulder is so much better, already have so much more movement than I had before. Hoping that after a month or so of physio that I'll get almost full motion back.

I had MUA in my frozen hip around a month ago but I still have no much movement and still lots of pain, not like before but cinsiderable yet. Wonder how are you doing today, did your MUA worked for you? I understand the hip joint is bigger then the shoulder joint so Im thinking may take longer for me to get better. I would appreciate your response. Thanks a lot.

Hi Judith. The surgery I had was through keyhole on my shoulder where they release all the scar tissue in the shoulder joint which gives back the movement. Pain after surgery controlled by painkillers but do lots of physio and more physio and should be back to almost full movement pain free within about 6 weeks.

Hi Judith. My shoulder was operated with keyhole surgery (can't even see the marks now) they release the shoulder by removing the scar tissue in the joint which has been restricting movement and causing great pain. Pain after op is controlled easily with painkillers and then you need to do physio and more physio and shoulder should be almost back to full movement and pain free in about 6 weeks

    Hi,

Just one question to the ones that already had a frozen shoulder in the past. How did you feel when your shoulder started thawing???Did you have any pain, did it feel numb, how exactly did it feel?

Hi I have had a frozen shoulder for 6months now and I am now facing surgery next month. Can anyone throw any light on what happens and what the outcome was after their surgery.

    Thanks.
