Frozen stage??

Hi all can anyone please describe from their experiences what the "frozen" stage of FS feels like?? I'm just trying to wish the stages through , and according to the literature out there ; once I am frozen I will then eventually thaw !! Or do all stages actually feel the same and one day the pain just stops as quick as it started ??

Hello Cindy. I'm frozen now. The pain decreases a little but not completely. Your movement locks in the shoulder and arm. Movement is terribly restricted but you don't want to scream as much if you have to move your arm unexpectedly. I used to cry with sudden movement and I don't now. I hope I have expressed what I'm trying to say. Hang in there x

Hi Teresa and thank you.. It probably does feel a little more restricted , and I have some days when I feel a little better in myself and I think to myself "this is the turning point" , but then the pain fliars up again so I wander if I just kidding myself and I'm still in the freezing stage 😳. I'll hang in there , together we will all beat this (eventually ) . TAke care

I can't wait until I make it to the point where I'm not getting an intense jolt of pain from sudden movement.  I was in the fitting room of a store the other day, and got all tangled in a blouse I was trying to slip over my head to try on, and forgot how bad the pain can be.  I was in tears.  Hang in there Cindy.

Thanks jules , and you. X

You were very brave to attempt to try on a garment in a store changing room , I make enough of a scene in my own bedroom let alone in public, the pain it causes is intense isn't it!

I'm in bed now cuddling up to my heat mat , wishing you all a rested (as possible ) night x

Glad I'm not the only one confused by the stages! I am (I think) in the frozen stage, having said that I have, as you know, had 2 cortisones and a hydrodilatation. So - with this in mind, I am quite comfortable. I am however DREADING the injections wearing off. I have been stretching and also having my Bowen therapy. All in all I have a bit more movement but am aware that this may not have been possible wtihout the cortisone jabs......so confusing! If the pain comes back, I have warned my hubby not to drive near any cliffs! redface

I think I was in the frozen stage when I had my hydrodilatation.  My worst time was mid-summer to autumn last year.  I remember going out with my hubby and grandson and automatically attempting to swat a wasp away and being doubled up with pain.  My poor 3 year old grandson didn't understand what was wrong with grandma!  Sometime in late October, I noticed the jolting pains happened less often - at first I wasn't sure if I was getting better at protecting my arrn and shoulder or if it was really improving.  I'd have days when I didn't ache all the time - though sleeping was still an issue.  I was at my stiffest but thought I'd started to turn a corner pain-wise.  Then another day my shoulder and arm would ache all day again and I'd be less optimistic.  Some of my physio sessions seemed to set me back several days or more and I wondered if they were doing more harm than good.

By the time I had my hydrodilatation, I was starting to get more days without the constant aching.  I still had to sleep propped up (semi-sitting) on a V-shaped pillow with my bad arm tucked round with a soft feather pillow and I'd wake up aching - but most days it subsided.  I think the transition to frozen is gradual and you can get some setbacks.  We're all different and the time scale for each stage and degree of freezing depends on that individual.

Two days after my treatment I was able to ditch the extra pillows and sleep normally on my good side.  Two and a half months on there is still a little discomfort (but not pain) if I try to sleep on my bad side or push my shoulder too far but no more aching and a gradual return of movement.  Good luck to all my fellow sufferers and I hope that you too can find treatment to help get over this awful condition!

People don't understand Karen and to be honest I wouldn't have myself before I got FS. I've cried with pain myself and it's a low point to be at. I will never underestimate anyone's suffering again. Pain is a great leveller. Be kind to yourself.
