Frustrated

About 2 months ago I started noticing the numb, tining, burning symptoms. At first, my fingers and forearms were victim. I went to the doctor to be proactive and they suggested I might have nerve issues newr my elbows. I also expressed my concern over my neck and face maybe feeling numb... He blew that off.

Later that week at my job the symptoms got progressively worse. The symptoms had reached my face, some days up to my forehead. Over the next few weeks symptoms varied from day to day, feeling, and area.

I had to wait about a month to get into a specialist. This is when I noticed my legs and feet starting to feel strange as well. I was very frustrated with the nerve specialist, as he shrugged most of it off like.. Hey, that's all pretty common. I did get an xray done on my neck. He basically said I can be as foreward as I want to with the pain to help mask it. I am not a huge fan of medicines, nor did I feel like I truly understood what could be going on.. So I agreed to the basic plan of trying PT. He also put me on Gabapentin. Almost a month in, neither have worked.

The PT has made all of this more puzzling. These people are great but just as baffled, as my symptoms are all over... Likelihood of me having a spinal related nerve issue seeming slim.

Within the past week, the numbness has gotten extremely bad in my feet and legs. I am losing sleep because my legs feel restless. Within the past two days, my right side is now worse when all along my symptoms have been equal on both sides. My entire right foot and up my shin is completely numb, along with the right side of my face. I am baffled because this progressively spreads and is something new.

I have done a lot of reading and research (mostly because it seems like that's how you get any understanding) and am trying options on my own like B12 supplements. I also have done a lot of reading about the pre-diabetic effects that could cause nerve issues. Until I have my next appointment (2 weeks from now) with the specialist, I'm praying somethibg gets easier.

Was it a neurologist that you went to see?

I eventually got to see one two weeks ago for ongoing headaches, numbness that changed to almost complete lack of feeling in my left foot making it difficult to walk. I was also suffering from dizziness and unsteadiness when standing.

I had a thorough examination from the neurologist who arranged for a head MRI scan that I had last week. A head CT scan in January had not shown anything. I had 14 different blood tests including one for genetic problems and am now waiting for nerve conduction tests.I had previously been to an orthopedic consultant who was no help saying that if it came from my lower back that surgery could make it worse. If it was caused by neuropathy that there are over fifty types and difficult to diagnose which one.

Nope, orthopedic. There is definitely something going on in my back, but through PT we are not able to pinpoint a pinched nerve, bulging disc, etc. plus, the numbness is in both sides. My PT guy has been amazing trying to help me out. Next week I will have a follow up, and discuss how the Gabapentin didn't make a difference and we need to take further steps. An MRI definitely needs to be my next step. From that appointment, I may leave and head right to neurologist.

    Hello,

I'm sorry you are having these problems.  Without knowing your background, I can only offer general suggestions.  Firstly, does diabetes run in your family? If so, then it is imperative to eat correctly; preferably protein

/ healthy carbs and fats- small meals every 3 hours throughout the day for blood sugar stabilization.  Limiting refined carbs is important in this.  The numbness could be any number of reasons- a pinched nerve, etc.   Vitamin b12 can help ( taken sublinqually and the methyl form is best) and you might want to take some magnesium glycinate for the restless legs.  Also, iron deficiency can also cause restless leg syndrome. ( have your doctor  test to see if you're anemic.)  Try cleaning up your diet with fresh vegetables, fruit and lean meats...organic if you can find/afford them. And filtered water. And try the supplements individually to see how they do.  Are you exposed to a lot of chemicals?  Because they can also affect how your body responds.

    best,

    sharon

Hello what i am suggesting is you take your doctors first advice and avoid the meds because they only mask the issue ! And why  take meds that's not capable of totally relieving you of your symptoms , because that's what they are symptoms that your describing , I'm no doctor but I now from first hand that's there are side affects from taking meds unnecessary , that's  far more greater then the symptoms that your describing, not to scare you but the doctor told you first hand about the meds , today we live in a systematic world where they are now tossing us on meds and sending you home we are being treated like cattle, I suggest you do research and start with your diet first and creating an aerobic exercise that you are comfortable with ! With all the toxins we eat, drink, breath, touch, is causing our immune system to work overtime ... Also your body produces a lot of acid , because we eat and drink foods that causes our bodies to go in overdrive ... So check you ph balance to se if your acidic level is high , also your weight is a very important issue if your overweight ! It's gonna take time to put yourself back in balance so be patient  good luck and keep me posted please

The doctor is the one who prescribed the medicine, I'm the one choosing not to take it then because of the possible side effects. It's an understanding that with nerve issues they can't "fix" them persay.. But they can try to mask them. Again, I chose to stop taking them because I didn't feel they were making a difference.

I have addressed my diet, processed sugar specifically. I am curious to see if it makes an impact after a couple weeks.

      Follow up appointment next week.

Before you change your diet please by all means do a colon cleanse as well as detoxifying your body ! Buy nothing but organic foods and stay away from bread, sugar, flour , dairy,  cookies cakes and pies! Eat only live enzymes from whole foods I would even stop eating meat except wild caught fish, no frozen foods only fresh foods! No sodas, and you must drink at least half your weight in oz of water that is a must ! Make sure your water is purified, and stop purchasing fluoride toothpaste, organic only its a bit expensive but it's worth it to me because fluoride if you research it is not good for your teeth period and anything you place in your mouth gets absorbed in your body. Again water is essential and lots of it don't worry about having to use the bathroom a lot keep drinking your it's normal for your body to get rid of toxins, oh and try eating fruit on an empty stomach and exercise exercise exercise its also essential ! Swimming and aerobics are excellent for your recovery! Baths with Epsom salt is great too! And yoga is great for healing as well! It's all worth it if you follow and stay on the path ! Results will gradually change you will start to see your results after a week to ten days ! Remember stay on the path this is for anybody that reads this with a nerve disorder.  toxins  pollutes your body acids in your body from your body trying to fight off toxins from the foods that we aren't meant to eat and it causes the body to stor fat and eventually your overloaded and the immune system turns against the body . which  damages the nervous system ! A vicious cycle only you can stop not a doctor ! ITS A BIBLICAL FACT THAT WE WERE ONLY MEANT IN THE BEGINING (GENIUSES 1:29)  TO EAT HERBS AND FRUIT AND VEGGIES AS MEAT KEY WORD MEAT ! YOU DONT NEED PROTIEN FROM AN ANIMAL BUT YOU DO NEED THE FAT FROM FISH!

And no candy too and please stay away from alternative sweeteners natural fruit only for your sugar source and you will need to buy a product call super greens to alkaline your body and get rid of the acids as this will also curb your cravings for junk foods and sugar! Any alkaline product should do!
