Frustrated by what I still can’t do!

Almost 7 weeks post surgery I find some tasks impossible- reaching stuff in the bottom or top of cupboards - but deciding what is possible is hard as there was no advice. How much can/should you be doing ?

I was told to keep precautions in place for 3 months. No bending down, twisting and to ask someone to move things I need to higher shelves or leave on the work surface. If you google hip precautions it should help you. I sympathize, it is fustrating I am only 12 days post op and dread 3 months of precautions.

We were told just 6 weeks. Seems it varies from surgeon to surgeon and hospital to hospital x

Hi Catt1, please be patient with your recovery. Are you in physical therapy? Usually the therapist give many ways to do different task. 7 weeks is still early. You will get better and be back to all your activities . Give yourself time. Blessings! Teresa

We were sent home after 20 minutes crutch use and with a couple of sheets of exercises . Two post op visits - only two because the first one thought I had a DVT and set a horrid change of events in place less than24 hours after leaving hospital - which I didn’t - after lots of unnecessary standing around and walking x

I had both hips replaced in a 7 month time frame. I was fortunate to go to rehab in the hospital and the physical & occupational therapist worked with me before being released. I had anterior approach which means free range movement after surgery. It takes time but by 6 weeks things should be much better.

My goodness that is brave. I am never having surgery again x I am not sure what approach I had but have to say if one is less traumatic and has better outcomes why do they do the others?

Where is your scar side or front. For posterior they go in on the side.

The postetior is the most common and easier op. With the anterior the hip is difficult to see and a technically demanding op sometimes nerve damage can occur. Not every surgeon can do the anterior.

I had Anterior approach for both hips 3months apart. I could barely walk after the 1st operation so I needed the next available time. With both hips we had therapy in the hospital and 8 weeks both hips. I am very blessed in that regard I'm in the U.S. There us a tremendous amount of emotional and physical challenges that no one prepares you for. It's great to have a solid support system and reliable and available family members. My quality of life is so much better and as time passes it will get better. May 15th will be 1year for my left hip. I am excited as the healing continues. Blessings! Teresa

Treetee, do you experience any swelling, tender to touch and numbness?

Sounds like you had the same as me a posterior THR.

Sorry that you felt emotional following your surgery. It obviously takes different people differently. I get the distinct impression that it really only effects the ladies in this way or perhaps it is just that the blokes are not admitting to it!

For myself I've not felt emotional after surgery and I've had two ankle an two hip jobs.

      Cheers, Richard

Yes sir Richardken I think maybe some men won't admit the emotional parts of such traumatic surgeries. 😃All is well however we heal as long as we heal.
