I haven't seen anyone of my age having this operation in this or other forums. Is there anyone over sixty out there who can tell me their experience?

I have just had on April 3 rd a total hysterectomy and I am a reck as it feel like my inside want to come out it is an awful feeling. I am 62 and had to have it done as it was cancer prevention as I was bleeding and so saw the doc to find out they did an ultrasound and found a mass on my overies and the endemetrium was inflamed. I have had other surgeries but this one is the worst of them all I can not do anything I get tired right away. I suggest if you have it done you have someone at home that can help you out. Good luck and let me know how things are going. God's blessing on you.

Thanks for replying. It is a year next week since I had my op. Good job I did as they found an early stage tumour in my womb. I had an unusual amount of fibroids and two polyps inside and outside my womb. Two were starting to encroach on other organs. One massive one was interfering with my bladder. Because I had so many cuts I was in a lot of pain for about 6 months. I still get very tired. Luckily my husband is retired and was here to look after me.
The hospital decided to do a check up every 3 months for the first year. I go for my last one in a few weeks. Then just an annual check for the next four. Thank goodness!
I have no regrets and I'm glad I opted to have everything removed. The alternative doesn't bear thinking about!
Good luck to you and I hope you start to feel better soon. It is a slow process, particularly the older we are.

Sorry to hear you are struggling to cope. It is hard enough caring for the elderly as it is, without trying to recover from an operation. We took care of my elderly mother in law who lived with us for 20 years before she passed away.Could you not get help from social services? We have always found them willing to help. You could contact your doctors surgery and ask for their advice. If your parents need help and assistance and you cannot do it, there is usually help available. Dont be afraid to ask. You need time to heal for some time to come. Please let me know how you get on.
Best wishes, Janet.
