Hi Alex, that is exactly where I get pain too, especially on the outside of the hip bone which can be quite sharp and unpleasant. I am 15 weeks post op and saw my consultant last week and he told me that the hip/scar pain is where the muscles were detached from the bone and then reattached (they have to drill holes into the bone to do this) and, especially in slim patients, who don't have much padding, this area can feel quite raw and sore. For me, walking and swimming aggravate it but it is getting a lot better. He said it will disappear but these things can take months. He reassured me it wasn't a 'dangerous' pain. Hope this helps.

    hi alex,

i am not sure if I understand your post correctly - are you saying that when you carry stuff your pain goes away?

There is this big muscle around the hip that can cause some pain or discomfort, when you overdid it - at 8 weeks and walking with one stick since week 5 could you have walking with a limp or not in balance yet - 8 weeks is still early in this healing process -

    just be mindful okay ....

great to hear how well you are doing otherwise ...

    big warm hug

      hi renee

?             This is my third time trying to reply to your post last time it just

?it just kept buffing  so hear go's   Thanks for your helpfull reply so ref my

?last post I had walked to the shops and had some pain in  the hip picked up messages and found on my way back the pain eased off     weird? you would think the pain would escalate but there you have it

?I do my exercises practically pain free I just have a slite twinge in

?the groin when I do the 6in off the floor but otherwise fine   I haven't

used my sticks since my 5th week and on my 8th week now

?I think the hip will be giving us reminders for the rest off our time

?until it needs replaced   Its in for a surprise shortly when I go back onto

?my weights I will start off light and Iwill be mindful and let my body

?warn me how far I can go  anyhow thats anough of my rabbiting on

?take care with a big hug

I have that too sometimes ... so annoying, isn't it (the disappearing of text )

so thank you for your determination - no wonder you are doing so great -

A little reminder : this is not a regular muscle that you are training okay?

this one is healing after trauma was inflicted on it ... rolleyes

not sure about the pillow its just that it felt comfy and stopped me from

moving about the bed ...but I have given it the heave- ho as the wife

keeps asking me if I have my teddy with me when we go to bed lol

Hi Alex it's been 12wks since I had a THR,I'm still limping a little, but I also have pain in my hip area.My doctor told me to keep exciseing and that limp should go away.but I wonder why I'm I still hurting.

Lora does it hurt inside the bone of the hip or the outside? I think it is normal for muscles to still hurt at 12 weeks, but maybe not the inside? Is your dr a GP or a consultant?

If you are worried do go and see someone who can check properly and can xray just to be sure.

Limping definitely goes as soon as the muscle is back on form, so keep exercising and walking.
