Further back problems.............................

In 2007 I had a micro discetomy on L4/L5 following herniated discs occurring during pregnancy.  I had inter spinal spacers inserted to alleviate the sciatic nerve from being pinched further.  Unfortunately, in 2010 I slipped on ice and the remaining disc dislodged the spacers and I then had to undergo further surgery being a posterior fusion with a wallis ligament attached again at L4/L5.  Although the sciatic nerve was been irreparably damaged years ago, and I still suffered infrequent muscle spasms. This had been a success until recently.  I am now experiencing problems from the coccyx through to T11.  There isn't a day where I don't have to take painkillers to just get through the day.  I am having regular chiro, sports massage and reflexology.  I am fearing that my spine is deteriorating further.  Has anyone else had experience of a wallis ligament?  Does it put undue pressure above and below?  I am at my wits end.

    Tracey,

So sorry to hear about your problems.  I have never even heard of a wallis ligament so I can't help you there.  Have you been able to incorporate any aquatic therapy into your routine?  I had an anterior fusion last July and swear by that form of therapy.  I sure hope that somebody can answer your question.  Sorry I couldnt help you any.

The wallis ligament is just a type of spacer they put in instead of doing a fusion to open up the space between vertebrate so that the nerve can pass through.  I doubt your deterioration has anything to do with the wallis ligament and more to do with your genetics and back. Whatever caused you way back in 2007 to get a herniated disc may be at it again causing more disc deterioration elsewhere in your back. I would suggest you see a pain management doctor to evaluate your back to find out where all the pain is coming from. It is unusual to get a herniated disc just from being pregnant so I suspect you have a bad back to begin with.
