Fused Toes

Hi
I have suffered with painful arthritis in my toes for the past 10 years. It has been a real life changer.
I am tired of being sidelined by pain. With what is left of my life I would like to spend it walking through forests, on beaches and up mountains, and as it is, I cannot even walk to the corner.
Please - those of you who HAVE had your toes fused, can you please answer these 2 questions:
- Why should I have my toes fused?
- Why should I NOT have my toes fused?
Thank you very much - keen to hear your experience. Good and bad. It will be helpful.

I have had my big toe fused. I had suffered with arthritis for about a year. It progressed very quickly and I had no idea that is what it was. I went to the ortho and he took X-rays and low and behold it was all over.
The pain (to me) was unbearable every time I moved. So he did a Cheilectomy first. Where they scrape the bone . We waited 6 weeks and it felt great! I thought I was in the clear. But sadly it didn't work long term.
He offered to fuse the bone and I jumped at it quickly! I couldn't handle that pain and I'm not a cryer over pain.
So I was put out and it was done. Its still sore but not the pain from arthritis. There's a plate and screws and what ever else they do in there.
The con is that you can't wear high heels.
Your food gets extremely cold? This baffles me but it does
And I tend to walk on the side of my foot still. I think its habit ...
The pro is that there is no pain! 😃
Good luck!
