Fuzzy head sensation

Hello all!
I have been in peri menopause for about four years now with irregular periods and a litany of symptoms too many to catalogue here. One symptom that has been rearing its ugly head recently is the vertigo with odd and fuzzy head feelings. I have been feeling this for the past week since last Friday. It is so unsettling. One day it was so bad I felt like I was about fall down! I had to lie down until it subsided. Does anyone else get this and what have you done that works to help relieve it?

Hi Sharceev,
I've seen this symptom discussed in various perimenopause forums. I have been experience an off balance feeling and have what they think is vestibular migraine (tests still ongoing), whatever it is I am convinced it is triggered by hormones in some way. I get headaches, head pressure and pain in the sinus area sometimes but following a CT scan of my sinuses this was ruled out as a cause. Having said that, sinus issues can also cause this. Do you get any other symptoms with it?
Sometimes the tiny crystals in our ears can move out of place and cause vertigo (spinning sensation) It's called bppv. Again this is something that seems common in perimenopause. This is treated by a health care professional by doing a manoeuvre to get the crystals back in the correct place.
Anxiety can also cause some of these symptoms or certainly make them worse but not sure this is relevant to you.
As for relieving it, I would like to know that answer too! Just wanted to offer some support and let you know you aren't alone. Have you had this before? Maybe make a note of where you are in your cycle to see if it may give you some clues. Hopefully it settles down soon, take care,

Yes I get anxiety and experience various symptoms associated with that. I have heard about those crystals in our ears getting moved around and how it can cause dizziness. Since peri started I have been experiencing dry itchy skin in my ears and I am constantly scratching around in there.
I haven't had a period consistently in almost six months so I don't know where I am in regards to my cycle. To answer your question though, I have had this before it just seems to be more bothersome to me this time than at other times. It could be because I have recently relocated and am still adjusting to my new surroundings and that has kicked my anxiety into a new gear. It has been hotter than normal here which also triggers my anxiety because I have an intolerance to heat and can get very woozy in the heat. So there are a lot of different things that could be causing it. I just hope I can find a solution soon. This is the worst! Thank you for responding and letting me know that I am not alone.

I forgot to add that my symptoms along with this dizzy feeling are nausea, and sensitivity to light so I'm leaning more toward the notion that this is what you mentioned a vestibular migraine. I had a really bad episode last year and ended up in the ER. They did a neurological test to rule out other factors and then they were able to diagnose me as having vertigo. They prescribed Meclizine for it but that medication makes me feel funny so I can't take that. I am leery about taking different pharmaceutical meds because of the many side effects they cause. I'm already going through enough as it is.

It's funny you should mention the dry itchy ears, I get this on and off, normally before a period actually. It is annoying and is an intense itch deep in the ears! My eyes get dry and itchy and my nose too. I have been taking an antihistamines to see if it helps. Not sure on that one yet though. If it's not one thing it's something else. I don't tolerate medication well either, I seem to get all the side effects and have had awful withdrawal from some. I did try Amitriptyline but it made me so tired and foggy but this can work well for others. It does sound like a migraine with the other symptoms you have, you can get these symptoms with or without the pain. I have to go and have balance tests soon and have some new medication to try so will report back anything I find out that may be helpful.
Perhaps you are going to have a period soon hence a resurgence of some symptoms.
The anxiety is hard to deal with isn't it, I do hope you are settling in well, make sure you are taking the time to look after yourself and do something you enjoy or something you find relaxing. Sharing our experiences is so helpful so keep speaking to us ladies on here. It's great to not feel alone. Take care,

I haven't had a period since December so I don't know if I will get another one or not. You're right about having the other symptoms without the head pain. The visual auras are awful as well. Sometimes I get this wooshing sound in my ear right before a migraine like a day before. Weather also triggers them for me too.
Thank you for your kind words. It really helps to have others who know what you're going through to talk to.
Take Care!

Hello sharcerv52408
Don't be afraid. Hormones WILL change for the better.
Had vertigo and scary head... feeling when I was on progesterone in 50's. The Natural bio identical cream type. I quit taking it and in about a month or so; it was gone. Doctors say the guy who sells the cream lies!; it does not leave the body in 24 hours! It gets into the fat cells and takes 6 months to 100% clear out.
Estrogen (red clover, lot soy, plastics...) also causes a slight vertigo; kinda different, like full of water and dizzy like feeling but not real bad as progesterone. At least not for me.
Also AVOID Black cohosh; it really goofs up the blood flow to brain.
I am 65 now in 2022 and no vertigo since year 2011.
After got past the progesterone; A chiropractor broke my neck, spine in 2009; that caused vertigo for 2 years until I found a honest chiropractor who (in 1 treatment) corrected the misalignments the dishonest chiropractor caused. The dishonest chiropractor has injured many people. After she and husband injured me; he said I have to stay with them for life and start with 240 more treatments and more for life, and will never be healed.
Love, and prayers,
Mary

Oh my goodness! That's awful! They should have been sued! I am not taking anything for my symptoms natural or otherwise. I've tried supplements here and there but never really stuck with any of them. The doctors had put me on birth control years ago to balance my hormones but I had so many reactions I had to get off of them. I've just been muddling through on my own.
