Gabapentin for pancreatitis????

I have chronic pancreatitis as well as two pseudo cycsts on my pancreas. Both can be EXTREMELY painful for no apparent reason at all. My doctor prescribed me 300 mg of Gab. 3 x's a day. I have experimented with more then that....it just doesn't seem 2 do anything at all. I recently moved 2 ohio where there is a huge opiod epidemic going on so all P.M. dr's i have seen r reluctant to prescribe anyone anything really. It's very frustrating for me because i keep getting prescribed this and people that i talk to say they have never heard of gabapentin being prescribed for pancreatitis....am i being played and suffering?

Y wld i go from gabapentin 2 highly addictive/dangerous fentanyl patch? I really appreciate your response tho!!

I am no Dr., but I have never heard of anyone being prescribed Gabapentin for pancreatic anything! I had a friend diagnosed with the same thing; have they done further testing or sent you to a Dr who specializes in this condition?
I am so sorry for the pain you are in; I know it is excruciating! Please ask your family Dr to send you on to a specialist; your condition sounds quite serious and what you have is nothing to play around with.
I sincerely hope you can seek further treatment. When your pain gets unbearable go to the ER; surely once they know what you have they will be able to make you more comfortable., that's the only way my girlfriend could get through it.

Ya....it's really frustrating. I swear they think im dumb...i know its not for pancreatitis. I went to a GI and he turned me away cause i was too inflamed....ive been told many times by doctors they won"t help me because the pancreas is so complicated....i really need a specialist!

I have realized that a great many drugs, in fact most are prescribed in the off-label manner....in other words...they are prescribed in ways other from what they are approved for.. For instance, Gaba. was approved for control for seizures...hence the term anti-convulsant.....now doctors are Rxing it for nerve pain, anxiety.....among other uses too.......it's the ways medicine has been going for a while.......too bad really..........our culture is so drug oriented now..............a drug for every cure so to speak.......
