gabentin treatment for pain with stage 4 prostate cancer

Posted , 2 users are following.

Iwas diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer on october 19 2015. which has metastasized to bones.   I have just recently been having horrible pain in my legs and body.  I was just prescribed 300 MG of gabapentin twice a day. I feel totally "outside of myself"  I have read that a lower dose with acupuncture could take away pai . And I am waiting for my prescription for zytiga to come in the mail. Could the zytiga take the place of the gabapentin?

I am very sorry Gilly. Unfortunately, the side effects you're getting are common with gab. Confusion, memory loss, fatigue and just feeling "off" and odd are part of the drug due to how it works on the brain and the synapses. It's not approved for this type of pain, but doctors prescribe if off label constantly. They probabably figure it may help and what can it hurt? Plenty!  I'm not sure what else they may offer you, but if the gab isn't helping, I'd slowly get off it. Dropping 10% per 3-4 weeks is recommended to avoid the miserable withdrawal that most people get. It's your decision. I took it for shingles and the pain was excruciating. It IS approved for that and epilepsy and did eventually help with the pain (I was numb). I started decreasing the amount after 3 months. I was at 2700  mg and am now at 1000 mg. If you don't get help from your pain, I'd get off of it.

I just started on it Thursday the 3rd. The dosage is 300 MG 2 times a day. When I took the 3rd pill my wife noticed I was not right. She started doing some research. I have decided to do magnesium 4 times a day 400 MG and acupuncture. Thanks for your input. AT LEAST I Can Say I Tried It

I had my first Vitamin IV treatment today.  They could only give me small dosage because I don't have a port yet.  But I felt a lot better after that small dose.  Will be getting a port this week and then I will get full dosage once a week.  I learned a lot today about Vitamin C and the oxygen needed for cells when having chemo treatments.
