GAD and OCD

Hi,

I am hoping for some advice please.

i have a long history of mental health issues, being diagnosed with depression and bulimia as a teenager and now due to a recent breakdown at 36 years old the dr has diagnosed GAD primarily health anxiety.

I have a lot of symptoms of OCD although no formal diagnosis of that and wondered does it fit into the umbrella of GAD or is it something that is diagnosed separately? forgive my ignorance and i hope my question makes sense. many thanks

OCD is an anxiety disorder however they are both diagnosed separately.

although they are very similar with the same anxious feelings and sensations, OCD also includes obsessive thoughts and compulsive actions . that’s why they are diagnosed separately.

some doctors might just lump both of them together and label it generalized anxiety disorder..

do you think that you have the obsessive thoughts and compulsive ritual actions? If so let your doctor know. It may or may not require different treatment like as far as medication. i’m sorry you have to go through all this as I know what anxiety feels like. I hope you feel better soon ❤
