GAD intrusive thoughts. Will they go away?

So I made a post a couple days back detailing my treatment, but I want some reassurance about these sick intrusive thoughts I'm having about my character. I don't even believe these thoughts half the time but my worry of them seems to make them creep back. At first I was panicking that I had Pure-O, but my doctor told me it's more likely I have GAD and am stuck in and out of an anxiety loop.

Sometimes I even wonder if it's explicitly the intrusive thoughts, and more worry by association of the thoughts, which makes me more anxious and confused.

That said, I wanna know if other people have dealt with these and if they went away with Zoloft. I just want to get on with my life.

I'm on day 23 of 50mg. I've had some days where the thoughts don't really cross my mind, and the anxiety went away, but I'd get super depressed. Now it's flipped back to worrying and thinking about the thoughts.

Intrusive thoughts are normal. We all experience them. They are unwanted thoughts or images that can cause you to become obsessed or distressed. You may have a difficult time managing an intrusive thought and getting past it. While they are no different from any other thought, it’s our attachment to it that causes the real disturbance.

    Some steps you can take:

Understand Why Intrusive Thoughts Disturb You

Understanding your own core values will help you to understand those unwanted thoughts you have. You will understand why they make you feel afraid or why you’d react negatively to them.

    -Attend the Intrusive Thoughts

Don’t try to figure out what it all means or use tactics to avoid causing harm to others. This causes your mind to pay extra attention to the intrusive thoughts, which is the last thing you want. How to beat intrusive thoughts is to see them come through you and move on.

    -Don’t Fear the Thoughts

This usually means they’ll occur over and over until you do actually deal with them. Intrusive thoughts do go away if you know how to manage them. It's important to remind yourself that these are just wild snippets of your imagination and they have nothing to do with your reality.

Thanks for the words of wisdom, I'll definitely keep them in mind. Sometimes you need logic to snap you out of a illogical state.

    Hi Jacob

Week 7 here on 50mg - I’m feeling a lot better than I was but the thoughts seemed to be the last thing to subside ... still get a few now but to what it was, it’s manageable - once the meds take hold, they should subside

I remember panicking at week 5/6 as I was still getting some but this week it’s got a little better.  Just give it a few more weeks smile

    Hi Jacob

I also have GAD my thoughts used to terrify me. I thought I was going crazy. But stick with these tablets. Soon you should start to see them fade away. But keep up the fight try shoving them aside. I know it's hard. But you will get there. Take care.
