GAD on 25mg Sertraline

Posted , 3 users are following.

hello everyone, i am new to this page and have a question, ive been suffering with anxiety for over 15 years but never knew i had it it until 5 weeks ago, ive been put on 25mg of sertraline and at the begining had horrible side affects like heart palpitations and my anxiety was REALLY intense for around 3 days straight after which i was left feeling fragile, i know these are normal but what my question is, is has anyone on 25mg felt better on this dosage alone? also can it leave you feeling a little shaky inside, not intense shaky but just a little? TIA

    Hi Nadia,

    I hope you're feeling better...

Your post looks exactly like a copy and paste of my own personal experiences with anxiety. One thing that I have learned over the years is that you will need to allow yourself at least 8 weeks after every dosage increase to give your body time to adjust to the medication. You will know if the drug is starting to work and has reached therapeutic level as you will have up and down days. Don't be put off by the down days, it may just be the anxiety poking it's ugly head in now and again.

25mg is regarded as an introductory dosage, but some people have success on a small dosage where as some need more... Always review dosages with your GP before increasing it and allow time between increases until you find the correct therapeutic dosage that you're happy with.

You will get there, it can take time to find the correct dosage, but you will...

Shaky feeling, heightened anxiety and erratic heart rate are side effects of Sertraline and should pass over time. Mention this to your GP as they may be able to prescribe something to take the edge off whilst you adjust. Equally important is to remember not to focus too much on the side effects, I know it's hard, but try and focus on the good days and grab them whenever you can. Deep breathing exercises can really help 😊

    All the best...
