Gagging and Nausea - help please

Posted , 2 users are following.

I'm looking for some advice. I have ever suffered from anxiety or anything like that before but recently I've been getting bouts of nausea and I'm physically gagging sometimes!!

To give you a bit of background I've been losing weight (deliberately) but I'm now getting a bit funny with eating out in public and any time I'm going out to a place this is what I'm getting.

Has anyone experiences this before?? and can you offer any advice on how I deal with it?? its horrible and massively embarrassing when I get this feeling suddenly come on !

    Hey Amanda,

I suffered this exact problem for a long time. Probably similar to me you even get these feelings the day before your social plans even happen because you are already worried. Once sat at my table id feel nausea setting in, my palms would sweat, and Id feel like gagging.

For me I was constantly worried people would judge me or would be watching my every move.

First bit of advice would be that others there are to enjoy themselves, as should you! They are not there to pain stakingly watch your every move. Take a moment to notice that others around you are doing their own thing.

Plan ahead, know where the bathroom is and if you feel yourself spiraling excuse yourself and take a breather. A splash of cold water on the face and talk down can do wonders.

Dont feel obliged to order a huge mass of food that you will struggle to eat. Anxiety aside, its perfectly normal to order a light bite. Why not order a side or two? Dont try and force the situation.

Its all baby steps, dont expect to turn up next time and be fine. Also dont fear the symptoms. Feel them, let them run their course. Ask questions, start conversations where by other people are doing the leg work so you can calm yourself. You can feel anxious for hours but it only take 5 seconds of clarity and feeling okay to wash that all away.

Be kind to yourself. If I got through it so can you. Dont hide from outings, say yes and gradually work on enjoying yourself.
