Gallbladder 20 weeks post operation, chronic back pain
Posted , 4 users are following.
Hi, I had my gallbladder removed on June 28th. Since I have had chronic pain across shoulder blades, rib cage feels under pressure, metallic taste in mouth and stools are still pale and float. All blood tests are fine for liver function, inflammation markers and ultrasound was clear. Does anybody have any suggestions, will it improve. Thanks.

I had my gallbladder removed around the same time as you.
My diet is very restricted and if I eat the wrong thing I will have issues sometimes for two or three days afterwards; diarrhoea, nausea, bloating, excess gas. plus during these times I feel exhausted and unwell, like I have stomach flu. I have improved since taking digestive enzymes and probiotics but I still have to be very careful with what I eat.
I have a lot of backache in the middle area but I've put this down to muscle problems from sitting at the computer too long or overdoing things at work because if I put a heat pad on it, it calms down.
I get pain under my ribs too, mostly left side which I'm told is splenic flexure and mostly happens if I overeat.
I'm told that it can take 9 months to a year for your system to adjust so I live in hope....
Have you tried digestive enzymes or anything else? also try eating small quantities every few hours instead of big meals.

Hopefully it will improve for both of us. Can you recommend the digestive enzymes

The Digestive Enzymes I take say they break down proteins, carbohydrates, starches and fats.
I don't think I can put the brand here besides I live in South Africa so you probably will have different brands where you live. I just went to the Health Shop and asked for the best one.
I'm unsure about how often to take them. I was told just one with my main meal but I eat often throughout the day. I'm going to make another post to ask people on this forum about their experience with them.

hi
I had open surgery almost three years ago and still occasionally get left sided discomfort around lowest rib area. It does take some time for everything to adjust. Stick to a low fat diet, drink plenty water, take short walks, rest when you feel you need to and don't lift. Fat should be gradually introduced. Also gradually increase fiber as this helps soak up excess bile.
Follow medical advice regarding analgesia. I personally would not take anything unless it was prescribed so I did not take digestive enzymes or ox blood or anything. I feel docs would have advised me to try these if there was good evidence they would help?
Hope you're feeling better soon!
