Hi.. I'm under urgent refural to have my gallbladder removed . I've been back and forth to the hospital all week all bloods are clear. After a ultrasound scan they told me there were lots of stones and one which is stuck in the bile duck..which has made it dilate... what does that mean??. I have to have a mri scan on wed to have a closer look before the opp... is this normal.. I'm a bit worried there looking for something else

    Hi Louise.

Try not to worry. It's all normal procedure. I had the same but worse as I had rising cholangitis and two blockages in the bile duct. The mri will show them exactly where the blockage is. So stop worrying.it's not too bad. Xx

I don’t think they are looking for anything else, so try not to worry. Think they will use MRI to ascertain exactly where the stone is lodged in the bile duct. Dilate basically means enlarged in this context. They will probably then try to remove it with ERCP. If that works they’ll probably do a laparoscopic cholecystectomy (key hole surgery). If it doesn’t work, they will proceed to surgery, possibly open surgery, which isn’t as bad as it sounds but it does take longer to recover.

    Good luck!

You need gb surgery. Also you need a ERCP. Which is surgery to take out stone stuck in bile duct. Had it all done. Now recovery is slow but being optimistic. Good Luck to you.😎
