Gallbladder Keyhole Surgery

Posted , 6 users are following.

Hi all, just wanted some guidance from those in similar positions.

Following a few weeks of constant horrendous pain that painkillers wouldn't touch along with a few trips to a and e, I had an ultrasound today that showed my gallbladder was very infected and inflamed along with a few gallstones

I'm on antibiotics now which should hopefully let the pain meds do their thing but I've been told I'll be having an op in 4-6 weeks to get the gallbladder removed.

I've done a lot of reading up on the surgery but am quite anxious about it, I know it needs to be done and I will 100 percent go through with it for my health but just wanted some guidance from those who have had the surgery before

I am mainly nervous about the anaesthetic and pain following the surgery. I had GA when I was a child to fix a broken arm but don't really remember much of it.

Any summaries of your experiences would really reassure me as I don't really know anyone who has had gallbladder issues and everyone I know is worried for me so I feel bad talking to them a lot about it as it makes them panic further

Thanks in advance x

So, two weeks of constant horrendous pain that pain killers wouldn't touch and it took our wonderful NHS that time to perform an ultrasound! JESUS! WHAT A MESS!

Still lucky as many UKers go round in very slow circles for months or years 1st.

My Brother had his gallbladder out a few years ago, came out the same day and was back at work the following week.

    You'll be fine👍

    hi Tishcat,

I was in horrendous pain like you and had an infection as well. I was on antibiotics and then had my op 8 weeks later. that was 6 weeks ago and I feel so much better now. I had key hole surgery and they used soluble stitches. I was nervous about the anesthetic but I spoke to the anesthetist and surgeon who reassured me. I had the op at 1pm and was home by 8pm. I was signed off work for 2 weeks , although I did a further 2 weeks on reduced hours as I was still feeling a bit tired although pain free which was a bonus. I am sure you will be fine. x

Hi there. Please don't worry it will just hamper your pain. I had mine removed because of multiple stones. I waited for a year and a half and suffering everyday. Finally I had my surgery and no longer in pain. You will be informed about what will happen before the surgery. The anesthesiologist will give you something to relax. Then the surgeon will ask you "are you ready". And you will say let's do this. This surgery is so easy now days It's a piece of cake. Recovery is about a year. Depends on the individual. I'm so happy not being in pain and nauseated anymore. You will come out like a trooper. Be positive ok. Bless you dear. And Good Luck to you. Any other questions I will be happy to help you. Bye

I was like this & had a gallstone stuck, pain killers only took edge off pain , I sat or lay down with a warm wheatpak on stomach, if u have pain for 5 hours constant go back to hosp they may push surgery forward

I had surgery & nervous as I remember thinking should I count & next thing I knew I was waking up in recovery, I had a sedative & antinaus & fine that day

next day sore & gas pain in tummy & shoulder but otherwise fine

tummy button hurt a bit couldn't lie on tummy for a couple of weeks, u will be fine

surgeon said eat what u want after your gallbladder out
