Gallbladder pain with stones and sudge. 12 weeks pregnant. Surgery at 15 weeks?

I am 12 weeks pregnant and have been having severe pain in right upper abd under my ribs. I had an ultrasound done this week showing my gallbladder having a lot of stones and sludge in there and stones on the duct. Surgeon wants to do surgery when I'm 15 weeks. I do not know what do do. He wants to do an MRI 2 days before surgery and says if there are still stones in there then it would be an open surgery not lap. ****
Has anyone else gone through this?

Hi Jen, I can see how you would be maybe nervous or anxious. Everybody in my family has had gb surgery, some open, some lap...none pregnant though, so your DR. will have your health and the baby's health as his priority & ask him ANYTHING on your mind....but, I can tell you my opinion, thoughts & experience: I had lap gb removal & the gas pain is always awful, had many of these type, also had many open procedures, one lg (hernia)one smaller(ripped out the big one)...I would have preferred an open procedure for gb...anesthesia will give sleep/pain relief and oxygen, not a long surgery, pregnant women do have this done successfully all the time...as your belly gets bigger it creates less room for an open procedure, may become more difficult and may have more risk, esp. since some women further into their pregnancy can develop higher blood pressure & etc...(it doesn't mean you will but, you cant know NOW) if your gb becomes an emergency, it will be stressful for baby & you....it can make surgery more extensive, you would have a lot of pain and stress....this is like a preventative almost but, you are already having pain and it could progress over the next few months, (ask your Dr what can happen)MRI has no radiation, so that's totally fine...ANY questions you have, write down and be SURE to ask your Dr about it, there's no silly or stupid question, right now you have time to get all your questions answered & make an informed decision...what would I do? I have seen how bad gb can progress and I would do it but, its easy for me to SAY, its YOUR decision...Please know, ANY decision you make, using the best info you have(Dr. answers & advise)will be what is best for you & your baby, there really is no wrong answer...Good Luck & speedy recovery whenever you have your surgery...Congrats on your baby, may he/she be perfect & healthy!!Overall Prayers and Best Wishes for you both!!💒♾💞☮🐾🌈🎶🍀🥳🤰👼💟💙
